I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do today. Options are:
1) ~40 miles medium/easy. ~2.5 hrs
2) rest/off/1hr super super easy.

This is the last week of a block for me. going
- 11:30
- 12:30
- 14:30 (So far)
But next week is going to be nothing but rest and a single 20' test. I've already violated RacerEx's "when tired rest" mantra once, and paid for it. I'm leaning towards breaking it again. I'm not quite as exhausted as I was the last time and I KNOW I'm going to rest coming up. Plus this hard 3-day block will simulate some stage races I'm planning to do.

I'd say that definitely goes under active recovery and an upper body workout given that I'd be shaking my fist at the scream and making obscene gestures for all of that 1 hour.

yesterday 50 miles on the trainer

today, woke up at 5 am and rode 1 hour at z2 on the trainer. Then my wife got called off today, so two hours later I went for 40 miles outside. It was cold and windy. I didn't wear my hunting gloves, but opted for liner gloves. Big mistake. It took 30 minutes to get feeling back into my fingers.

I survived my threshold test. My 20 minute average was only 283 watts with an average heart rate of 159. I believe the 30 degree weather might have hurt me some as far as my numbers go but it gives me a starting point at least.

No doubt the cold cut into your power numbers. How much do you weigh now?

Wet 1:31 recovery ride; but, the rain helped clean off some of the muck that had accumulated from the previous 3 days. I gave the bike a decent clean apres ride.

EDR -- When I read your post, I was thinking that your prescription would be tough to follow in low to mid 30 degree temps.

Yeah rotti, it can be hard to do, but, you gotta go warmer than you might think in the cold weather.

Lowcel -- concur with edr.

I'm not sure if it was the cold or I was just too tired from yesterdays effort. My lack of ability to raise my HR kind of points to tired.

BTW love you avatar...the kids and I love 'Adventure Time'

I have remained 220 through the holidays but hope to start losing again now that they are over. I have a long way to go but I have plenty of time to get there. My new goal is to race again starting in 2012.

(Per Ghostbusters) When someone asks if it is due to temperature, you say "YES!!"

Thanks. My kids and I have gone crazy over Adventure Time. I spotted a Jake knitted winter hat on a kid yesterday during my ride and my kids saw someone wearing the same hat in NYC last week. I wish they would come out with the figures already!!

Not yet, heading back tomorrow. It has been awesome riding here but I am seriously looking forward to getting back to NY.

American charged me the regular baggage fee but no extra for oversized, Southwest charged me $50 (Lady: "What's in the bag?" Me: "Um, sports stuff." Lady: "What kind of sports stuff?" Me: "Oh, you know, lots of stuff. Just sports stuff." Lady: "It's a bike isn't it?"). JetBlue remains to be seen.

wow, interesting.

Jet blue will charge you $50. Either way, i'm surprised AA didn't go to town on you by charging you $150 one way as stated on their website. Any tips on securing everything so that things don't get damaged? Also, it must be a trek to lug your bike from JFK to East Harlem.

I think i'll wait a few weeks before riding with you as you'll surely drop me on the climbs

Get the fenders ready for the riding here because the snow's been melting leaving the roads a wet, salty mess.

Jim, I was sure to get the nice-looking guy instead of the mean-looking woman at American and was VERY friendly. Hm, I'm probably not the person to ask about that since I tend to just shove everything in there and hope for the best. The only trek I'm making is from the baggage claim to a cab...

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about that. I've been doing a ton of climbing and leg strength stuff here but I'm pretty sure I've managed to out-eat all that riding, so I'm coming back a little bit fat and a lot bit tired.

Jorge, at this point I think I'll just get the rollers ready, although my schedule for next week is just about as close to not riding as you can get without actually not riding.

I think that my team mates were screwing around with me today.

Today's team ride was only 5 of us: me, 3 of our 3's, and one old 4. We are supposed to meet up with 2 guys that were local racers back in the 70's and 80's to do some roads (not all paved) quite a ways south of town (into the wind). We are supposed to meet up in Flemington and we agree on the route (the most direct one).

Lot's of shenanigans even before we leave town. It was going to be one of those rides. I ended up just rolling off the front about 15 miles into it at a not very hard pace and just kept it there. I was expecting them to catch easily. Instead I reach the meet up point and wait. And wait. And wait.

I start riding back to see if there was trouble and my cell phone rings. They now say that we are meeting in a different place 8 miles west of where I was waiting and they are taking a different route. I double back and take a different route from them to the new meeting point.

Just before I get there my cell phone rings again and they slightly altering the meeting place and tell me to wait there. I get there and wait. And wait. I call them and now they say they are somewhere else.

I tell them to have a nice ride and ride home.

No hard feelings, even if I was "punked".

Felt pretty good on my ride today, but I bonked at the end. No power data cause i forgot my computer, but ~40 miles, 2.5 hrs.

Right now I'm sitting at -72 TSB.

TIRED. And now for a rest week.

16 hrs, 245 miles - biggest week I've ever done.

Test day. My coach uses this to check progress and set ftp. Ramp test with 2 minute steps, 20 watt increments until I hit my 30min TT HR. 10 Minute recovery and then a twenty minute tempo effort at 10 bpm below my 30 TT HR so the target for the tempo effort would be 153 for me. About 20 watts better than my test 5 weeks ago.

2 hour z2/z3 endurance ride. The weatherman predicted 90% chance of rain. The roads were wet but just a couple of drops. Go figure.

Really wanted to ride outside today but events conspired against me. Did manage to get 45 minutes on the trainer, so I've got that going for me. Which is nice.

I wrote out a plan for this month just to stay fit. Maybe start a bit of intervals to mix it up.
I want to get and stay fit for nothing more than to get and stay fit right now.

The local Polar Bear rides are next weekend. I may do both or at least one. These things explode into races for some reason. Right from the gun no less. So they should be fun.
