US equivalents of classic Dutch bikes like Gazelle

Can anybody recommend any sort of equivalents for these classic looking Dutch bikes I might keep my eye out for in USA?

https://www.oldbike.eu/museum/wp-cont...aides-bike.jpg

I really like the upright seating position.
Saw thousands of these in Holland but would like to find something closer to home.

New and modern, or C&V/used?

To buy as complete/ready to ride, or to build?

Raleigh Sports isn't quite as upright, but they're pretty ubiquitous and inexpensive.

They are also astonishingly durable and reliable. There are hundreds of them in my neighborhood, which is impressive considering how old they are. I can spot them easily because the back end of the rear fender is always white.

Well, since you mentioned US equivalents, I'd say an old Schwinn from the 60s or 70s. Plenty to be found on CL, super cheap, very relaxed geometry, and easy to modify to either 700 or 650.

Lots of original and repro chainguards available too.

Thanks but I already have a couple 70's Schwinns.
But I don't consider them equivalents.
The upright position on the dutch gazelle is way more pronounced.

Do You consider any bike Sold in the US as qualifying? even imports?

the Schwinn Varsity 27" wheels, and other cruiser bikes 26" wheels, that were made in the US Factories are where the US went ..

while the Dutch were buiilding a different style of bike, for themselves..

there are Shops Importing the real thing From NL , Now.

Pashley is a very similar bike made in the UK. Still in production. They very rarely pop up on CL.

You can buy new Gazelle bikes through their US distributor, shipped to your home. They are pricey (says the guy who finds most things too pricey):

In my view, the Raleigh DL-1 is the closest thing to that Dutch Roadster:

From Flikr:

Here's one for sale on CL in Boston:

Nice.
That's sorta what i'm looking for.
Not necessarily US manufactured, just C&V bikes you can find in the US.
Raleigh DL-1, i'll put that on my shopping list

Actually, the archetypal Dutch bikes started out as Raleighs build under licence, so you're more right than you think you are

Your best bet is to shoot for a Raleigh DL-1, or else, if you like the style but in a newer version, buy a VanMoof. They opened a NY store/US distribution system a while ago.

I may have found a DL-1.
But the owner is over pricing it imo.
I haven't seen it with my own eyes and have only this blurry pic to go by.
What do you think is FMV?

I scored a TREK Cocoa, off a police auction, for my daughter. Internal 3-speed, aluminum frame...very nice riding bike. She loves it. Funny though, it came with a set of ape-hanger bars installed. Which is probably how it came to police custody - total style infraction. I switched out to stock bars and gave it a quick tune-up, it's been rock solid ever since.

Can also get a Gazelle in the U.S.

If you're like me, and are looking for someone in the U.S. who stocks them,
I recently discovered that Mike's Bikes imports them from Gazelle in the Netherlands.
(I'm not affiliated.)

Their stock is low at the moment, but when supply chain issues are resolved,
I'm sure they'll be getting more.

Zombie Thread

ericTreeLight

Welcome to Bike Forums C&V.

Just a heads up, group etiquette frowns on replying to Zombie Threads. This one is 7 years old!

Problem is that some threads can go on for pages which means viewers have to scroll through many messages to get to your post. When folks continue to hijack the thread the problem gets worse.

In general one or two years is a realistic timeline for replying to an old thread.

In some groups you would be mercilessly flamed. BF C&V is a very civil group of folks.

If you disable endless scrolling, jumping to the bottom of a thread is easy. I recommend it to everyone, and I don't know why it's not the default.
