This post isn’t super fun to make, but I’m going to start a rumor that, after five years of effort, I will be stepping down as Cino director after this year. Lots of things are changing in my life, some sad, but mostly glad, that brought me to the decision.

What it means is more focus on my work-family-service balance - it can’t be a 1:1:1 ratio. The service part needs to be dialed back so I can focus on my new role expanding my elementary school into a sustainable middle school and savoring the last three years of my kids’ time with us at home.

I love seeing you guys (and your bikes!) and am both honored and humbled by everyone’s support of this fundraiser, but I only have so much I can give at this stage of my life.

Cino will live on, likely as it started: a bunch of people supporting themselves. But the big shindig will be no longer. Heck, maybe I’ll have time to come visit some of YOU guys on your own crazy rides!

Allez!

Dave,
THANK YOU and WELL DONE to you keeping the spirit of Cino alive and sharing it with others.
I admire your character and the mindfulness that you and Dawn practice at home and in the community.
Looking forward to crazy rides with you in the future, my friend.

Dave,

Now there's even more of a reason to find an alternative to Kila Pub...so that we can toast you and thank you for your years of service (and perhaps also recruit some new blood to take over).

One tip I will give you. I have in the past resigned from a couple of long term volunteer positions (i.e. running a large youth soccer club and managing an adult soccer team). What made things easier for the continued success of those organizations was that each time I wrote up an instruction manual (e.g. "How to run a youth soccer club" and "How to manage the soccer team") that broke down in detail all the things that need to be done, when they need to be done, and important tips for making them run smoothly. Passing on this information made it easier both to recruit someone (or actually several someones) to carry the torch forward, and to provide those new volunteers with a map to success.

Oof! Completely understand, these things suck a lot out of you. I hope someone can be found to take over, if not we can treat it like FauxRoica, a date is set, people show up, and the ride is done self-supported.

Add that to my list...

Thank you all for the kind words. I truly appreciate it.

Reed gave me the most detailed list one could imagine. I suffer from do-it-all-itis: I'm a great worker bee, but a terrible queen bee. I even got help from school this year, but it's a summer event and... there's just so many reasons. I use Reed's list and it can certainly be passed on to anyone interested with updated info (that's not a veiled request, mind you).

Cheers

Dave,

Adding on my thanks for your doing this for as long as you have. that last years of kids at home is whirl so taking advantage is the highest priority

I am now even more bummed than ever that I can't make this year (my own fault). I hope everyone has a blast.

maybe someone will pick up the big shindig, but if not, please keep the C&V crowd in the know of semi unorganized set the date and see who shows up times if you hear of any.

And it would be really cool to get some sort of map of the route, as you little tags weather wear and I would have been lost anyway with out following people

thanks, cheers, may your tires never flat

i think there is a map somewhere on the Cino website, it should be downloadable. Even I got turned around on the 2020 Un-Cino!

if nothing else, I fully intend to announce a date for future un-Cinos.

i love the ride and will continue to do it. Company is always welcome!

Best strategy is to lay in the back of the pack and just follow the tracks……………well, most of them.

added: squirtdad Wish you’d change your mind and return this year - it’s not too late to start a doping regimen.

Dave:

I am sorry to hear you will not be continuing with Cino. I wish you nothing but the best in what lies before you. I can certainly understand our reasons and endorse your priorities.

We have never met, as I have been unable to make it to a Cino event. But I know some of the people who have done Cino and have commented here. The high regard in which they hold you and the event tells me all I need to know about you and your impact on the cycling world. Good on ya.

Tailwinds, and keep the rubber side down.

Thanks, Roger. It can get hot out there at temps like that - especially after lunch day one and two - so it’s good to prepare for warm weather. It could be warmer, it could be cooler, but this is probably the likely scenario.

We’ve had Septembers like this before, so it’s not unheard of on Cino. We’ll be sure to have pickles!

Hey Dave

Do you have beverage list going? Last year we were asked to bring a sixer(or half rack?) of pop. Also, can we just register and get our numbers(& jerseys) on Saturday morning?

Looking forward to seeing Y'all in about a week.

Awesome photo!

This year we have enlisted local distributors as donors for drinks, so we should be good there.

As usual, registration day of is always an option. We will also have a shine and show Friday with registration that evening.

Also, we are auctioning off a couple items online. One is a full Monte Gugificazione! (Many thanks, @gugie!)

time for more emails…

We'll be staying in Hot Springs all three nights and have a truck if anyone (and their bike) need a ride to or from Kila.

Yesterday, first day of our journey to Cino. Spending couple of nights at Priest River, Idaho.

We woke up to rain and some thunder, but it's burning off to partly cloudy skies now.
