Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe, but watch the length so it's not too short if you size down. IMHO, buy clothing at an LBS where you can try the items on. Or if you must mail/internet order, try to use a vendor that allows returns for sizing issues (most do). Sizing and tapering between brands advertising the same fit probably varies more than between pro and club cut within the same brand.

For some reason, the more I pay for a jersey, putative size being the same, the less material I seem to get. Kinda like my day job, higher education, which at times seems to be the only product that many purchasers of seem to be as happy as can be to be shorted full measure.

I'd never actually heard the terms before, but all my jerseys are medium and the ones I bought 20 years ago barely go over me now. These must be race fit. My wife laughs at me when I try to put them on.

rule of thumb
Racer fit = <10% body fat
Club fit = 10-20% body fat
Relaxed = 20+% body fat

Musculature makes a difference, too. Cyclists who have chests and shoulders better figure on extra fabric around their waist if they want the upper part of the jersey to fit.

10-15% is not really that appropriate for club IMHO. More for form fitting.
It seems to me you get the stuffed sausage look above 15% or somewhere in the high teens. Too bad I have no clue what my fat percentage is.

Club fit = me, 53 years old, ride 100 miles per week looking good and being comfortable in a jersey.

Race fit = 53 years old, ride 100 miles per week looking and feeling ridiculous in a jersey.

So if you race, buy a race fit. If you don't, don't

So what?

Club fit= Me 45 years old, ride about 125-150 miles per week looking like and feeling like I'm wearing a parachute.

Race Fit= Me 45 years old ride about 125-150 miles per week lookng and feeling just right.

I eat about 4k calories a day. If you're fat wear the club if not don't.

So what?

I would normally wear a XL or XXL in race fit at 220 lbs....i ended up buying a M club fit jersey at 3 state 3 mountain this year...I tried on the XL and XXL and they would easily fit a 300+ lb man...no club fit for me Besides I like feeling like Chris Farley in my cycling Jersey's..."Fat guy in a little jersey"

Is the shape different, or is it just a bit bigger/smaller respectively?

It seems completely idiotic to have two different sizing schemes that overlap. If they just tend towards different proportions, then it makes sense. If it's just a sort of (race+1)=club, then it's very short bus as a conceptual framework.

They seem different. Club fit tends to be wider in the middle and have elastic around the bottom. It can create a "tent" effect. Race fit is form fitting with a narrower waist and has no elastic band at the waist with no extra fabric to bunch up.

Relaxed (club) fit and race fit usually have the same length and chest size, but the relaxed fit is wider around the belly and shoulders. Buying relaxed fit jerseys 1 size smaller will often cause them to be too short for you (compared to race fit jerseys), leaving your belly exposed (yuck).

Just make sure that there is a return policy and be ready to use it. I'm a smaller thinner guy and I have a Garneau that is supposed to be race fit that looks like an old lady's moomoo (sp?), and I have a Voler that is club that fits me like a glove.
