Didn't know they did the screw and glue with 531. That's interesting, and very cool in that size frame. Almost looks like a junior model...or like the tubes are over-sized.

Raleigh USA introduced their Technium glued together series of bikes in 1986 - more or less. The original frames were made with aluminum main tubes glued into cast steel lugs. They used steel forks and rear triangles and produced a lot of variations using the glued together technology.

Around the same time rame Raleigh UK was producing their version of glued together frames called Dyna-Tech. They made these with aluminum, steel and titanium main tubes - later carbon fiber.

In a masterpiece of marketing hogwash, The folks at both Raleigh organizations tried to convince buyers that their new glued together frames were better because: A. they were lighter and B. they were stronger because the tubes were not heated and maintained their original as drawn and heat treated strength.

Those claims have some truth to them but consider this, gluing together a frame takes a whole lot less time and labor than brazing or welding, thus a money saving process.



* Getting back to DMC707 's frame, yes the tubes are oversized and glued but not screwed into forged aluminum lugs and BB. The forks and rear triangle are steel.

The Competition model had OS straight gauge Reynolds 531 main tubes. The rear triangles were made by True Temper using 4130 steel and were prefabbed to fit with little or no addition work. The fork blades may or may not be Reynolds 531 but they are high quality never the less.

Raleigh USA also offered a Team Technium 753 with OS straight gauge Reynolds 753 main tubes with a 0.6mm wall thickness. The rear triangles were also True Temper 4130 and the forks were Reynolds 753 but by that time they were really 531 which is the same alloy, just not heat treated to 753's strength.

I bought a 1990ish Technium Team 753 frame out of curiosity. I eventually built it up for use as an old man's climber. The decals are red, purple and gold vs. the red and blue on the earlier models. The seat stay attachment is different too.





The OP's maroon frame certainly is handsome looking and should make someone who can ride that size very happy.

Over the years, there have been lots of reports of adhesive failure on the 753 frames. Several things to consider: A. they were mostly larger sized frames. B. They were probably ridden hard and C. The 753 tubes had thinner walls and thus more flexing.

I wouldn't expect a problem with that size frame, if for no other reason than a potential rider may weigh a lot less and put fewer stresses into the frame. If it were my size....
