63cm 1981 Trek 710 F/F/HS/WS/HB 650b Low Trail

1981 Trek 710 rolling chassis plus fenders, brakes, headset, stem & handlebars, plus other small parts. Modified for 650b cantilever/linear pull brakes.

SOLD plus 1/2 actual shipping from 29601. Should be around $75 shipped when we split the cost depending on where it goes. Please don't be shy about shooting me an offer, I know things like this are kind of hard to price.

Reynolds 531 frameset. Modified by Yellow Jersey in Arlington WI.
63cm CTC seat tube
59cm CTC top tube
73.5 degree head tube angle
72.5 degree seat tube angle
All original specs here.
Clearance for 650bx38mm tires but I've seen 42mm fitted if dropout screws are removed
Frame is straight and derailleur hanger aligned

Modifications:
Rear 650b cantilever posts
Seat tube & under down tube bottle bosses
Downtube shifter mounts
132mm rear spacing
Powdercoat in Prismatic Powders "Porsche Silver"
One odd thing is that the seatpost binder bolt is 1/4"-20. Was like that when I purchased the bike so it must have been tapped like that from the previous owner.

Velo Orange Polyvalent MKIII fork
63mm offset results in ~33mm trail with 650bX38mm tires. Will clear at least 42mm front tire with fenders, probably more.
Custom 10mm aluminum crown race to make up for ~10mm shorter axle-to-crown of fork.
Two eyelets on each dropout plus mid-fork lowrider rack mounts

Powdercoat is 7/10 condition, not the best coating I've ever seen plus a few defects and some minor surface rust at top tube housing guides. Minor chain suck at DS chainstay.

Sale includes:

Original Reynolds 531 fork
Brass fillet brazed cantilever posts added recently but has not been powdercoated to match
Fits 650bx38mm tires and fenders

Velo Orange "Snakeskin" 50mm fenders. Some holes and wear but they present well.
Velo Orange cartridge bearing threaded headset & crown race. Bearings smooth.
Dia-Compe 950 brakes with new Jagwire pads. Also including straddle cables and Dia Compe cable hangers
SR 27.2 seatpost
SR 80mm stem
44cm Nitto B132 handlebars 25.4 clamp diameter
Downtube cable stops with barrel adjusters
Surly rear cable hanger
Headset cantilever brake cable stop (Dia Compe?)

Wheelset:
Shimano 105 R7000 QR hubs. 100/130mm spacing. 11s freehub body
DT Competition 2.0/1.8 butted spokes. Brass nipples
Velocity A23 polished rims, standard front, offset rear
~2500 miles, true and smooth spinning

Compass Loup Loup Pass 38mm extralight tires with ~2500 miles.
Rear tire is squared off but has a bit of life left, front is still in great shape. Never punctured.
Will also include 3x Pacenti Pari-Moto 38mm with lots of life left. Never punctured

I've put about 3k miles on this bike including half a dozen 200k brevets. Lovely ride but I'm finally admitting it's just a bit too big for me.

One caveat: (with either fork) If using the headset spacer brake mount and want to use a front rack rando bag there are not enough threads for a headset spacer decaleur like the one from Velo Orange. Stem mount decaleur required or front rack with integrated one. There's a few options out there. Locknut has 4-5 threads to grab on to which has been fine in my experience, especially if you add a little bit of thread locker.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Seatpost and stem at minimum insertion for photos

And more:

Not a dent, just a strange void in the powdercoat

Wow, that is a stunner!! If I didn’t already have a ‘79 710 650b conversion that fits like a glove…

I have three ’81 Treks in various sizes and they take SAE seat post binder bolts - kind of a surprise but definitely standard.

I appreciate it, I'm going to miss this one

Thanks for the clarification on the binder bolt

I apologize for bumping an old sold thread, but this is kind of exactly what I'm looking for. I'm regretting not picking it up back in the spring.

If the new owner is finding that it's not working to plan, please drop me a line. Thanks.
