Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mrs. GeneJockey, as soon as we bought a house, told me we were going to get a Golden Retriever. She'd never had a dog, growing up, and I think she figured a Golden is an Entry Level Dog.

So we found a good breeder, got a puppy, and life was magical for a while. Then he reached the stage where they jump up, nip, and hump everything. She called me at work, terribly upset, "We made a mistake! He's uncontrollable! It's like he's POSSESSED!!!!", but I reassured her that they all do this. She'd bought the 'puppy books', but hadn't read them. I showed him who was boss, and he was like, "Oh! There IS order in the universe! I know where I fit in!" and calmed down and became the bestest dog EVAR!!!

Lesson - even an Entry Level Dog needs work.

Never heard of it. I don't recommend coming here today, though. It's chilly again.

I previously mentioned that one of the guys in my club is moving to NZ at the end of the month. One of the things that he wanted to do before leaving was to get in one last, long ride through a couple of his favorite areas. It took a little cajoling, but "my friend is literally moving to the other side of the world" works wonders on spouses, so I got clearance to ride with him.

Last night, he found out that, because of... stuff... he wouldn't be able to ride, after all. Did I tell my wonderful wife that? Heck no - I got clearance for a long ride so I was going on a farewell ride without him . Windy as ****, almost twice as long as any ride that I've done this year (90 miles total), and it started to get hurty towards the tail end, but it was good to get in some work on a warm, sunny day (which have been nonexistent this spring).

Oh, and I looked fab in my newish, ******y, matchy-matchy Rapha kit I haven't really had much of an opportunity to wear 'em in earnest, but both the jersey and the bibs are awesome

Hey, speaking of matchy-matchy, my kit and my ride matched today. Red bike with white bar tape and saddle, and some black accents like the CF Ergo blades, paired with white helmet, red jersey, black bibs, and white shoes and socks. Also white gloves, which is how I keep white bar tape white.

Me too. Navy/silver bike. Navy/white bibs. Red/white jersey. White socks and helmet, and grey shoes. The only thing keeping me from being pretty was me.

We made it home safely. We did spend about 30 minutes in Tennessee on Route 81. I got hungry and the best veg option we could find was a Subway. It was not exactly nasty, but after a week of gourmet gluttony in Asheville, it was not very good, either.
