Kona Dawg Deluxe rear shock is bad--repair or replace?
tl;dr: rear shock is bad, should I replace it or rebuild it?
I have a 2009? Kona Dawg Deluxe. I know nothing about bikes, I just ride up the mountain and ride down the mountain.
The rear shock is leaking and the propedal gave out years ago. I was quoted $175 for a rebuild.
Should I just replace it with a better unit? I assume tech has improved in these years. I assume I can find something inexpensive on ebay maybe, but I have no idea what?
Is there anything I could replace it with of approx the same cost that would be an improvement?
Thank you

You may not be able to find something of great quality in something modern that fits the dimensions of the old shock. You may, I am not really a shock expert but from the little I know a lot of older stuff is not super compatible on the modern side. The bike overall is a decent mid level bike and it is fox float shock which is a nice shock I would probably rebuild it and save yourself the hassle of measurements and such and keep the bike closer to original. At this point full suspension bikes have gotten a lot better so the older suspension designs are pretty outdated so if you are looking to upgrade a modern bike would be a better ticket. However if you are just riding up and down a rebuild makes a bit more sense.
