Possession at last

Just took possession of this 1991 Breezer Lightning Flash that I purchased a couple months ago but was not able to collect until now. My plan is to clean the sticker gunk off the frame and touch up the paint nicks best I can with original colour paint. This will be a close to catalogue spec rebuild so it may take time to source the parts I need to achieve that let alone the funds to do it. I will get further into the project as posts progress. For now I will begin buy posting photos of the components that came with the frame.

Nice project !

A bit more of a prolific pedigree than the Bridgestone resto i just posted about, but we were fighting the same fight -- trying to source parts to get it close to catalog spec that is . However, Breezer being a boutique brand back then, would these have mostly been sold as framesets for the buyer to build as he/she wished? Seems like anything from a nice Deore DX/XT/XTR to a Suntour XC Comp or Pro, or even a Campagnolo Euclid or Centaur build kit would look sharp on that frameset !

I do remmeber them being rigid though so i wish you luck sourcing the fork --- if not a 1st generation Manitou might be a nice stand - in ?

Love the old Breezers. Had a chance to get one for a song but it wasn't my size so I passed on it. Hopefully it's getting some love as yours is. That cassette: Looks to me like a basic HG50 Shimano. Works great and will last, but neither light nor fancy. I have an 8 speed NOS XT cassette here, and it has an aluminum carrier holding the cogs together. XTR would be similar.

Nice bike! Here’s mine, built from a bare frame with modern components. Not sure what year it is, surely a bit newer than yours. Enjoy the build!

Do any of you think I should build the bike up with the components that it came with? All are in fine shape but not the end result I’m looking for. Of all the parts the frame, seat post binder rear derailleur (rough shape but have alternate)are catalog spec. I know a Ritchey Force seat post is what originally came on the bike but I do like this titanium seat and seat post combo so thinking of keeping those on it as well. I have a Double Butted Fisher handle bar, XT front and rear derailleurs, Ritchey vantage comp rims on XT hubs with DT Swiss spokes and gum wall Ritchey Mega-Bite tires as well as the Ritchey lightning titanium QR’s sourced already.

I'd say build the bike the way you want, don't worry about keeping it catalog spec. Maybe you can stay period correct as a middle ground? Or throw on modern parts to make it the way you like.

I understand the reason for matching the catalog, I see it with car restorations too. However, unlike cars, a bicycle parted out is worth more than complete to catalog spec.

Nice! I always had one eye set on a breezer venturi, i know a shop that had one frame on the wall as late as 2010 and i always toyed with the idea to get it (wonder if they still have it ) must have been the paint scheme which i really like. I wonder if it would look out of place on that Motta i'm sanding down right now for a repaint...

I'll agree with above. Build it how you want it. There bikes and meant to be loved and used. I tinker with old bikes all the time and hardly ever stay original or time period correct. Fix 'er up to be something you'll truly enjoy.
