Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

James Farm Eco Center/Wildlife refuge:

Beautiful, spring like day in south-coastal DE. James Farm is one of the few areas near me for riding "off road/gravel". The total loop is about 5 miles. Except for areas of much sand, it is easy riding and gets a lot of use by pedestrians and bikes. Fair weather users mostly. No motorized vehicles of any kind allowed. If this area had not been donated, it would now be a huge "development", which I prefer to call destruction. I believe it is still run and maintained by both the state and a conservatorship.

Found some new to me non-paved roads in the Ocala Nat Forest. They went on for miles. I don't think I saw anyone for 20 miles.

Yes, this is a view into Haleakala crater on Maui. The mounds are volcanic cinder cones; I believe the summit is on the largest cinder cone.

The ride goes through a lot of grassy pasture land; as the elevation goes up, the vegetation gets thinner and the landscape gets rockier. Another pic from the ride, above the clouds.
