i have things, so i needed a basket to carry them lol. front rack/basket is the place to start for carrying stuff - keeps your bag where you can see it, no "tail wagging the dog" effect from weight over the rear, and way less chance of stuff bouncing out.
i just put it through the saddle rail and seatstay.

You can buckle or bungee things in the rear basket, which also prevents wagging. I think a front basket is for load beyond what you can carry in the rear. It blocks your view of the road. Would you recommend the model you have?

having any weight on the rear causes wagging, doesn't have much to do with how secured into a basket that weight might be. too many people make the mistake of assuming carrying stuff must start on the rear of the bike. terribly imbalanced way to ride. my basket does not block my view of the road, as i am not staring down at my tire...are you? and no, i exclusively use things i wouldn't ever recommend.

This is my bike. The first time I've used a front rack and I actually prefer it. I can strap anything to it.

I didn't even think about a front rack. The basket I liked is too large for a front rack.

Just upgraded my seatpost bag and added a top tube bag. All I'm missing is a flood light, which I probably won't need while it's summer.
Edit: Also going to get some bottle holders.

A couple weeks back I stopped using the BG as my commuter and built this..
I like everything about it but the barcon's (probably because of the handlebars) so later this week it'll get a Rival 1 group

do you recommend panniers over a basket? I don't like how my basket raises my center of gravity.

In the handlebar bag I put repair stuff and all the small things I need to carry
LR had my softball stuff, RR had work stuff in it, the fronts were for grocery's. I don't need/use 4 all the time but yesterday was going to be long and busy.

My commuter is more of a relic than most of the others posted here.(1994 GT Pantera)

Still, it serves me well!
