Thank you, this is my fave bike at the moment! Modifications are my handiwork and I think "why" can be best answered with "why not"? 
Longer version of "why not" - I like the aesthetics of vintage bikes combined with some modern aspects, and for some reason, I just have a soft spot for Peugeot bikes. This bike was laying around as a frame when I bought a small brazing torch, things just gradually escalated from there. Blank canvas etc... Building new would most certainly yield better results, but I did not have the skills when I started with this bike ~2 years ago. Left rear triangle is braced for longevity, IS mount for brake. Original fork was also modded with IS disc brake mount, but it's now assigned to garage shelf ornament as that head tube was replaced with fresh cut from Columbus Zona. Brakes are cable actuated hydros (2-piston Zoom Xtech), 140mm rear disc and 160mm in front.

Love the creativity and reason for doing the project.
I took a frame building class a few years ago and built a Zona tubed road frame, have brazed some things to an 80s Schwinn Premis in order to put 2x11 components on, painted a handful of bikes, and currently have a mid-90s Cannondale CAAD3 road frame in the stand that I needed some minor fixing and was repainted. The decals I used are from the same company as yours and I also used a carbon fork as a replacement. Point is, I totally understand the reason for choosing to go this route- tinkering and the problem solving is also a hobby for you!

Unfortunately, no. Bear was a short-lived house brand for retailer Mike’s Bikes. Not many were sold, and the info is limited. The frame is Taiwanese-built carbon, and this has a 2x11 Ultegra build. I’m very happy with the bike, and the price I paid for it.

original bike wasnt anything too flash, but i wanted a steel frame and this popped up locally. Geometry worked, but needed some adapters to run the flat mount callipers.

NICE! That's one of the most interesting bikes I've seen in a long time! Love to see a resto/mod with modern components....the addition of a rear disc brake and new head tube is unusual - and a big carbon disc fork combined with a 1975 frame...FUN!

What really winds them up is when someone takes a nice steel frame and hacks/Dremels off the brazed-on bits to make a s***** singlespeed. They even have a verb for it: it’s called ‘drewing’ a frame.
anyway, back to this conversion: I did something similar with a blue Peugeot touring frame, nowhere near as nice as our friend’s effort from Finland, but I was pleased with the result and it rode really well.

I guess C/V ppl would be more appreciative than not, as this is indeed a bit more than the basic ss mutilation of a vintage bike. Since the last photo, I found a reasonably priced french threaded hollowtech 2 bb, so now it’s sporting a modern Race Face crankset too. I also managed to fit those 54-584 studded tires with some SKS plastic mudguards for winter randonneuring shenigans. Cannot really tell from that picture, but winter wheelset is built around bike’s original Rigida steel rims just for kicks. There’s some toe overlap especially with the clipless pedals, but for the intended usage, I’m good.
