Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With a good reader, I think Dickens is about the pinnacle of the audiobook. I remember hearing that the books, serialized in newspapers, were meant to be read aloud. If you’re into 19th century classics, there’s a reader named Hootkins (I think), whose Moby Dick is a spellbinding listen, especially for a book many of us weren’t crazy about in school.

The source is the app SCRIBD. I would guess 25 hours, as most of his are.

I'll look into it.
Edit: I found it and saved it. I look forward to it.

I used to work for Don Francis, who not only was part of the Smallpox eradiction effort, and later one of the first people working on AIDS for the CDC, but also was part of the WHO team that worked on the very first Ebola outbreak back in 1976.

Is that the one the mini-series "The Hot Zone" was based on?

I used to think I had SLI, but the other night I walked under a streetlight that was out, then it turned on. Reverse SLI, I reckon.

Nothing in the manual that I have found about them either.

The O rings are for the battery assembly that screws in the pedal- they make a watertight seal. You should use them.

The washers are spacers

Maybe it's divine punishment for threatening to invade Kenya.

Of course this reminds me of the last ebola outbreak and how certain politicians were so interested in stopping it they proposed killing anyone who contracted it. Slightly different to 2020...

I was going to mention this - I've long noticed that street lights frequently turn off when I approach. As I child, I figured that I had special powers. As an adult, I figured that it was coincidence and confirmation bias.

... but that doesn't keep me from saying, "yup, still got it" to myself when it happens these days

The politicians and their henchpeople are going to be very interested in this one too, if it reaches our shores.

My body shape is frustrating to find things that fit me correctly. Wide shoulders, short torso, long arms. I bought a rain jacket several months back. The large was too baggy so I elected to go medium. Off the bike it fits fine, arms just a touch short, on the bike the arms go half way up my for arms, and the back of the jacket doesn’t cover my lower back. The good news, it doesn’t act as a parachute.

No, apparently that was based on an incident in 1989.

Outbreak was ebola correct?

scary thought but the idea behind that movie, fire bombing a town off the face of the Earth, might hold some truth to real life. I was reading a Jack Carr novel recently, in the prologue he dives into the idea for his books, and the evidence behind it. The book was a fiction terrorist attack using biological weapons, the Government response was written as factual as he could make it. Basically, the plan in place is to wipe the infected cities off the face of the Earth to limit the spread.

Maybe I'm confusing stories but I remember one where a doctor or a team went to Africa and visited villages that were wiped out by Ebola? One village where an elder or leader had died and the people came to pay their respects and embraced the body, thus picking up the virus.

What I recall about The Hot Zone is the virus wasn't the same as they thought it might be and didn't cause a lot of deaths.

Yeah, the customs they had about dealing with the dead, including washing the body, were just great for spreading the virus - hemorrhagic fever with virus-laden blood leaking from everywhere, being washed in plain water by people not wearing any PPE. It wasn't just the village elders, it was everyone dealing with their family members.
