Chainstay inside cog or left chainstay only for belt drive?
Hi
The gates carbon drive needs a broken frame to allow belt pass thru.
Has anyone ever built a frame where the chain runs completely outside the chainstay?
Most bikes are like:
Wheel / cog/cassette + chain / chainstay
I'm asking about:
Wheel / chainstay / cog/cassette + chain
Would it work?
What about left chainstay only?

With bikes, everything has been done. Literally.
Rob English has done this with a single sided rear end too.

An elevated chain stay is more common than a double chain stay or split chain stay. I seem to recall that elevated chain stays got a bad reputation for some reason, but they became popular in a time when I wasn't paying attention to cycling fads. They have come back.

I don't know why you would need a smiley, an elevated chain stay is one common way of doing this. That split chain stay is weird enough I want to build one. Maybe with a Cambio Corsa drive train.

Well, I was mostly posting it with a wink and a nod, not expecting the OP to actually consider such an unusual design. I was mildly surprised when it seemed to posted a serious response.
