Hi all.

This may be covered a thousand times, but I swear I didn't find anything when I searched. I have an XO-2 and I'm eyeing a set of 650b wheels, but I'm unsure of my bike's rear spacing. Yes, you could tell me to measure, but there's about a .3 percent chance I'd actually be correct. And its 100 percent I'd get 5 different measurements for five attempts.

The rear wheel I'm eyeing is 135mm. I'm guessing the XO has 130mm spacing, though. Looking for confirmation, really.

The catalogs are online and have this information. But yes it should be 130 mm. My '93 is. No big deal to spread it.

But why are you buying 650b wheels? I know they're trendy but you'll likely be forced to run a narrower tire than you could with the 26 inch wheels that came stock. I'm running 26 x 1.75 tires on my '93 XO 2 and I have room for wider tires as well.

I'm not necessarily buying them. But I am interested. I currently have 1.95 tires on my XO, which baaaaaarley fit, but they do. They're nice, but, if I'm honest, a little bit overkill. I've heard good things about 650bs and I'm interested, if I can find a good enough deal on a set of rims. I'm not sure I'm keen on jamming a too big of a hub in the back, though, so maybe not these wheels i'm looking at. You can still fit 47-48mm tires with 650s, no problem. That's plenty big.

I think you're underestimating your ability to measure rear dropouts. It's very simple, all it takes is a ruler. In this video RJ shows how to do it within the first minute.

I wonder if your brakes will still work with 650b? I imagine you'd need to move the pads up quite a bit?

Yah, I'd have to go with brakes that have more reach, probably.
I'm not committed to doing it, but the thought appeals to me. The size says to me more like road bike, but with comfort and stability of 26''.

I'm having a hard time figuring out whether 1.9 tires would fit on the 92 xo2 I've read the Japanese models can fit that width but unclear about the Taiwan model. Any pointers would be appreciated. I don't have the bike in front of me to measure myself.

Three year old thread, but yes, 1.9s will fit, just barely. This is my partner’s 92 XO-2 with 1.95s.
