I got out for a nice ride late morning. I met a couple of guys who happened to be stopped in the Guilford town green as I was taking a coffee break; one on a Grant-ized RB-1, the other on a Grant-ized Surly LHT. They were on their way from New Haven to Rocky Neck Park for an overnighter. Cool guys, cool bikes, cool ride.

No pics of the ride itself but nikkorod and I did a 50 mile ride sponsored through the Delaware Valley Bicycle Club.
We have done this ride 3 or 4 times over the years and this year was by far our fastest time/ average speed.
The forecast said there was a chance of rain so I put the fenders on. So nice to install fenders on a bike built with them in mind. Took about and hour.
Got a lot of “nice old bike” compliments…

The sun was out, but it seemed "unsettled" when I left for an early AM ride. About 30 min. in, there were dark clouds approaching fast. Didn't check RADAR before heading out since it was sunny.
Somehow I threaded the needle between these 2 systems, and only got a few drops. The red arrow is my path up into Lake County. The blue on the radar wasn't reaching the ground.
Looking south, you can see the weather system. My wife texted and asked if I needed SAG - it was pouring in the city.
Looking north, nothing but blue skies (and wet roads). Everything dried out within an hour.
Overpass in Deerfield - 10 lanes! Lots of "mare's tail" clouds.
Ended up riding 62 miles. Temps were over 90 by the time I got home. On/off showers for the rest of the day.

Fairly nice ride on bike trail with single speed trainer a lot of rain in the area but I missed it all roads were wet on the way back.

Things were going well on this unlikely trail in upper Manhattan when a loud bang signaled the end of my rear tire. A new tube and Kevlar boot got me home without needing the subway.

Nice ride save I do keep a tube or tubes and tire patches shims in my ride backpack, It sucks when nicer good tires fails.

I’ve been carrying pieces of Kevlar envelope for years, I was glad to have them. The tire was a Compass Bon Jon Pass with about 2500 miles on it so I’m ok about that. I replaced the front recently because of a bulging sidewall but hadn’t ridden it. The price of a new one gives me pause but it’s a GREAT tire.

Delayed reporting - Saturday was my 60th birthday. No, I did NOT ride my age, but I did go enjoy what has become a favorite loop route. It passes an intersection I have ridden through for more than 20 years, but recent underbrush clearing along a utility right of way revealed a long-neglected cemetery. I must have been in complete denial about what it says when I posted this picture on Strava with my birthday ride -

Hi, Prowler. Thank you for your concern but I assure you we are just fine. I did not include decimals in that report because I'm running low. (It has been said that you'll never run out of numbers but that doesn't apply to decimals.) The last decimal shipment came in damaged, apparently from an accident on the dock in Singapore. The replacement is stuck on a cargo vessel waiting in queue at a port in California. Enjoy your ride! Stay safe.

As the calendar promises cooler and drier weather ahead I'm starting to think of my annual "ride your age" event. For some reason I've not actually figured out, it looks like this year could be the longest yet. So I'm training a bit as the likely route includes 3 or 4 pretty difficult hills, for me anyway. So today I ran 33.14159 miles on the SRT and through Valley Forge Park. Took the Nishiki International which a very nice machine and a great ride. Good weather as we await the arrival of the storm fka Ida. May dump 5 inches of rain tomorrow.
Stopped in the park for a happy snap. I logged some very enjoyable miles today. A good day without a redoubt. I'd better stop as I cannon think of any other puns ("somebody shoot this guy!")
