odd Raleigh headbadge

Looking at a bike with this headbadge and wondering if it is legit. It's on what I believe to be a 1973 vintage upper end Raleigh that has been re-painted. Does not list Nottingham England.
What do you think?

I *think* that's the headbadge they used on Sports, at least that's the only place I've had one. Since it's rivited on, it's possible the factory assembly line ran out of the normal ones and used one of these.

What's the rest of the frame look like?

My suspicion is it a replacement head badge used when the bike was repainted. The original got mangled, let’s grab this badge off of a Malaysian 3-speed Raleigh Sports (I had one with those horizontal bars where Nottingham England should be), it’ll be fine …. ans here we are now.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, too.

@Schreck83

Here's a pretty good article about the early Pro's and Carlton's that used the Brampton fastback seat lug and they appear to use the s/n format of this one.

.
...speaking as someone who repaints bikes, the proper replacement headbadge can be irritatingly difficult to find at the time you actually need it.

And also irritatingly difficult to get off with zero damage when the frame does have one.

Especially if you have little or no experience doing so.

Sometimes even if you do.

Yeah. And if you think getting a head badge off a frame is tricky, try getting a saddle badge off the back of a saddle without mangling it.

Yep, seen plenty that gacked the saddle and the badge.

I just got a pair of Campy track pedals that had Binda straps that were riveted in a loop on the end.

I used the air dremel like tool with a burr to buzz the rivets out with almost zero collateral damage.

This thing has saved my azz so many times for so many different problems.

Harbor freight,

The badge on my Dublin-built Record looks like that, but it has paint.
