Route Suggestions Along NC Coast
Good Morning,
My wife and I are tentatively trying to plan a trip to NC maybe as soon as April but with covid who the heck knows. Whether it's this April or another time, I'm wondering if anyone here can suggest some bike routes along the coast with your typical amenities like eateries, hotels/inns, marinas, etc. We would probably be in the area for about 6 days, biking for maybe 3 days. I haven't figured out transportation back to our car yet, wherever we end up starting, but that seems like a fairly easy hurdle. If I had to sum it up, I'm looking for "the best" part of the coast for a somewhat leisurely bike route that has nice shops, dining, ocean views etc.
What do you folks think?

There is a bike path(asphalt/concrete) from Corolla down to the Wright Memorial. You can then do a road section on the coast side past the Wright Memorial that then hooks back into a bike path that ends at Jockey Ridge. The hard core road riders continue to Bodie Lighthouse from Jockey Ridge using Route 12. Google Maps satellite view shows you the bike paths pretty well. We vacation at Duck every year and I always ride up to Corolla and down to Route 158 multiple times during the week. There are some public beach accesses along the way that I use also to view the ocean. I have not done this, but when Route 12 ends in Corolla, the beach starts for the wild horses. Four wheel drive vehicles are allowed to drive along the beach to view the horses. But, I see many bicyclists riding along the hard pack sand near the water, where no vehicles are allowed. There is parking at the end of Route 12, so you could start from there.
In terms of COVID, everything is basically open, and the tourists have not really returned yet. You have to deal with wearing masks and social distancing but that is normal procedure at this point. If you have been vaccinated then you are really good to go.
