I've started sketching a tour of Vermont for June. An indirect route from Brattleboro to St. Albans. That way I could take Amtrak both ways. Plan is to stay at state parks to extent possible. May stray into New Hampshire and even PQ (if possible).

You know you can reach out anytime. Like Eric said, the weather varies, of course, but it never gets really cold at the lower elevations. The Santa Monica mountains never get snow or even ice. Baldy Village is only about 4K feet but it can snow there and there has been ice on the road when I've been up there.

Highway 39 goes up to Angeles Crest @ about 7K feet but it's a great ride if the roads aren't icy. I also know some loops you can do from Pasadena that can get you 80 ish miles with 8K feet of gain. Or more, if you're into that sort of thing. Sometimes in winter certain roads are closed to cars which makes the ride nicer.

You could even just go to the summit of Mount Wilson if it's not iced over. Not a long ride from Pasadena and I think it summits at 5500 feet. The last 5 miles is out and back only. There is a small cafe at the top which will probably be closed in February. There is the 100 inch telescope and a bunch of other neat stuff, including a lot of radio and tv towers.

When riding Angeles Crest it's always nice to see these gates.

Looks like fun. My hope is roads will be ok for multiple expeditions while out there, but I will accept what is safe and skip what is unsafe.

Funny you should mention that. Do you remember that hero sammich I had for lunch yesterday, damn near 1200 calories including the mayo? Well, combining that plus the 1200 cal cheesecake plus the other two normal meals during the day, I finally met and exceeded my target daily goal of 2600 calories for the first time. Blew it away.

Math works.

Each of the last few years, my wife has gotten a thicc boi Key Lime Pie, from a local bakery, for my birthday. Each of the last few years, my wife has had one slice and the kids have turned their noses up at it, leaving me to eat 92% of the thing by myself within a week... or to feel horrible for letting it go to waste. While I LOVE this particular KLP, it's just way, way too much.

This year, I wised up, got ahead of it and convinced her to only get two slices. Whew.

My wife makes a really good pound cake for birthdays. Takes her nearly a half-day to make it. After having a slice, and maybe two, we realize that we just cannot keep it around until it's gone. Fortunately, we can usually send most of it home with the kids. When we can't, we usually look at each other with sad eyes and begrudgingly throw it in the trash.

My wife makes a huge cheesecake once or twice a year. When I'm disciplined I will freeze half of it for the future (cheesecake takes freezing well). When I'm not disciplined I just methodically consume that bad boy over the course of a couple weeks. It usually adds a few unhealthy pounds.
