I feel you, it's one of my favorite things about the look of the bike, which I overall really love

'85 Trek 830

Finally got this setup how I want after sitting for a couple years. Pandemic, you know? Gonna be a super commuter and path bomber. Fancier tires to come later if I feel like more gravel adventures.

my 1993 Serotta starting to take shape. I bought it new in march of 1993 and recently decided to update and simplify it, never really found the perfect fork and went with a Soma tange but it is a bit longer than I wanted and pretty plain.. Pretty amazing the serial number is 007 and british racing green. and my wife's mid 90's Trek 850 as original as when I bought it for her new other than the seat..

Taking it apart I came across a stem sticking out of the bead. Tire had air so I thought it would just pull out. I'm guessing this was left over from the stump, lol.

Nice looking bike!

Roots break stones and buckle concrete, so a tire bead doesn't stand a chance. But I hope this means that there was a tree above the bike protecting it from the rain!

and do projects count? This frameset is the reason i picked up the above Bridgestone --- this is another Bridgestone from my young adulthood that was rebuilt numerous times and fell into disrepair but being sentimental i wanted to restore it, so i got a "parts bike" -- (But the parts bike is too nice to pull apart -- so there ya go --- N+1 per usual )

Not really Vintage because it's an early offshore to Taiwan.

Had to remove the reflector sets off both bikes. I hate to change one owner bikes, but some things just need to go.
If these are vintage mountain bikes, then I think the term has lost any real meaning, if it ever had any. We can certainly just delete the thread, since the bikes here are no different than anywhere else on the forum.

I was sort-of thinking the same thing, but without the negative tone. However, the OP doesn't mention a cutoff date for C&V, and neither does the overall C&V Category definition. But there is a certain aesthetic to the first purpose-built MTBs that kind of got lost in the trend of specialization that began in the `90s.

I would propose this: A vintage mountain bike is one with no suspension, and a quill stem. That puts the cutoff somewhere in the `90s, I think. Or do what some of the motorheads do - C&V is anything 25 years or older. Interested in hearing any thoughts on this.

By age rather than year I think would be best. Let's remember, a new to us Bike when we were young is most likely a classic to todays kids. Sort of a sliding scale.

Typically, the members of the C&V forum are inclusive and not exclusive. If the OP thinks that something is C&V then that is good enough.

If you don't like that then just move on to another thread.

Very true --- regarding mountain bikes, if someone is 28 years old and grew up on a steady diet of carbon fiber 29'ers ---- a 15 year old 26'er single pivot rig might seem pretty archaic
