Yesterday I did one of my usual rides (El Dorado Park to HB Pier). A 28 mile loop. For the purposes of this story, I do that loop about 3-4 times per week. Yesterday, the traffic lights on PCH must not have been timed like they usually are. Traffic was backed up from the Overpass at the Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach all the way to Warner. I swear I passed the same cars sitting in traffic at least 4 times on that stretch of road. I've never seen it that bad.

I got out for 25 glorious sunrise miles of gravel along the Santa Ana River near Eastvale/Norco. Perfect cool crisp fall morning. The sheep even came by to check out the new Niner gravel bike...

ugh. haven't been out in nearly a week because of work and various/nefarious other interferences. and now? the back is playing the "guess who's your daddy?" game.
looking/praying to make it out tues/wed for decent/respectable mileage.

Yesterday I rode up Chaney Trail and Mt Lowe Rd and on to Mt Wilson. First 3.5 miles (2000ft gain) are paved, but much is broken or covered in dirt. Cloud was low and wet and visibility was poor. 1/2 mile after the dirt road begins in earnest a mountain lion climbed out of the brush about 20yds ahead of me. It wandered on and didn't look back. I waited a few minutes before continuing on. I reached Mt Wilson Rd in the wind and rain and gave up on reaching the top as visibility was non-existent I headed back down with visibility down to 20ft in places. A large deer hopped out of the trees right on front of me, made me jump more than the lion and disappeared into the mist. 20 miles total. The strangest and eeriest ride I have ever done.

Did my usual (twice weekly) ride to the mouth of the SART. A little brisk when I left (07:00) but it warmed up faster than I expected. It was a beautiful day and there were a lot or riders out there today on PCH.

I've been looking forward to a ride up to Mt Baldy Village with the change of weather. I started at Encanto Park and warmed up along Sierra Madre before ascending GMR-GRR. Small pockets of snow were visible in the distance above the West Fork of the San Gabriel River.

Nice crisp morning and damp tarmac did not deter small groups of both road cyclists and MTB'ers on GMR.

two 20-miles rides in metro san diego last two days. really digging the fall weather.
absolutely fave time to ride socal-last two weeks of sept > thanksgiving. not great mileage
but happy to be out and thankful the boss...er...the back graciously consented to let me escape the house.

A quick jaunt out my front door and around Palos Verdes for a quick 1-hour ride today. Nice weather!

And on the way home, we swung by Helix Brewing Co.
Then later we went to a Jimmy Messina concert (from Buffalo Springfield, Poco and Loggins and Messina).
Sort of a perfect day.

Over the weekend (Saturday & Sunday Oct 5 & 6) at Huntington Beach, there was the "Air Show"

4th annual show line-up will feature the, USAF Thunderbirds, The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, Canadian Forces Snowbirds

That took the ride on PCH to a whole different experience. The jets in their various formations, the huge crowds parking every which way. It seemed like a good portion of Orange County was there.

Its not about the routine ride; its about being in the midst of an event that overshadows the ride.

10 years ago I was a weight weenie and scoffed at people with metal bikes, racks, bells, etc. Now I am all of the above.

a 40+miler from metro san diego to chula vista and back. unschedded lunch stop at tacos el gordo on the way back is my kind of spontaneity.

35 miler past sdsu and westbound along the 52 bike path. obligatory stop at societe brewing in kearny mesa.
south down convoy/linda vista rd/ulric into mission valley, then up texas st to actually get some exercise.

Nowhere today. Way too windy. I'm going to work on rebuilding my wife's bike.

Hopefully this wind dies down by the weekend.

Rode from just outside Frazier Park to the top of Mt Piños. Headed up the single track at the base of the mountain to the nordic ski hut and then followed the double track to the top at 8800'. Took the paved road back with a short detour along the Southridge trail, which is the least technical of the trails I had ridden up. Back at the parking lot someone had set up a BBQ pit and I joined the line for pulled pork and ribs

Rode on Blue Ridge, a dead end transmitter site road that is located mostly on National Forest land, and I'm told tops out around 5000 feet. To get to the road I had to do of 12 miles of mostly uphill, only made it 6 miles up the transmitter road proper, a couple miles short. 18 miles of climbing was enough for me, legs started seriously complaining around mile 15. I thought I was in better shape than that, but I have been lacking in long rides lately. 36 mountain miles, and I'm beat. I feel like such a "looser".

Since I chose the route on a whim, I wasn't sure how far it was to the summit, which was tough mentally on such a steep climb, lots of 12-15% stretches. I will conquer this climb on another day.

Saturday I got the chance to meet and ride with Jon T from the forum. It ends up that he rides with a group that leaves every Saturday morning right around the corner from my house. We had a nice ride to downtown LB and grabbed a cup of coffee at the Starbucks across the street from the courthouse. After chatting it up and getting to know one another we headed back. Approximately 27 miles and a beautiful day.

Where is this? I know a Blue Ridge in the Angeles National Forest. Where is the trailhead you parked?

It's 15-20 miles due east of Lindsay, CA. In the Sierra National Forest. It's Blue Ridge Road, which is a left turn off Balch Park Road AKA J-37, heading more or less north. It's a transmitter tower road.

Still getting over a chest cold with a hacking cough. I did not want to go two weeks without a ride. Headed out to Encanto Park with ideas about riding up to the Icehouse Canyon Trailhead.

The GMR gate was closed due to fire danger. After getting to the shack and sucking gas, I realized the lungs were not up to my first idea. Instead, I took advantage of the closed road and rode down to East Rd then back up to the shack. Really struggled today but glad I took advantage of the closed road and scenery.

LASD had their bird patrolling GMR.

Its a beautiful place - the Chumash supposedly named it "The Center of the World" A tough climb in places: loose rocky and steep, plus the altitude meant i had to stop and push a few times, but the variety of views and changing landscape made it a pleasure

I rode some gravel along the Santa Ana River in Norco yesterday. I ran across the ultimate trail clearing machine! I think they're finally starting to work on connecting the SART from Eastvale through Prado Basin to the Orange County segment. This thing was massive!

40 miler on a beautiful fall day from mission valley to mission bay and pacific beach and back along the waterfront, thru dtown and
balboa park on the way home. decent amout of cyclists out for a monday but thinking the holiday had a little something to do with that.
