Blood Flow Restriction Training
I recently came across a video by Trainerroad about this (you basically tie off your thigh to limit blood flow with the idea being that this simulates intense training (not enough blood, or rather oxygen, being delivered given the muscles' demands) and can help increase your Vo2 max.
I can't help but feel that this is an incredibly stupid thing to suggest (even with the usual "see your doctor", "talk to your coach" disclaimers). It's ******g dumb to cut off your blood flow, much less when doing intense exercise.

One legit thing is I think the less excess body mass you have in terms of fat or big arms and such, less extra blood flow to things that aren't making you go fast. So, a climber can stand to have toothpick arms.

Can't imagine constriction of blood flow could possibly be worth the risk. Gee, let's tie off the blood supply to a limb, in the hope the body will respond well. Deprives the body of oxygen, nutrients, immune/inflammation response, and all the rest. Sounds really foolish.
Though, oxygen challenging the system (ie, via constrained air intake or training at elevation) can induce measurable change in healthy athletes, from a performance perspective. All for it. (Assuming one is otherwise healthy and fit.)

The apparent increase in perceived effort, pain, and struggle (also cardio stimulation) if you restrict oxygen can also be achieved without restriction by simply training at higher intensity and your bones will thank you for it.
