I had a rear tube blowout this morning at 2.7 miles into my ride. My wife was riding with me, she was about 6-8 feet in front of me and BOOM! Loudest bicycle tire blowout I ever heard. Honestly, it sounded like a rifle! My wife INSTANTLY started sprinting and on about her third or fourth downstroke she shouted "What was that?!!?" "My tire" I answered.
This is my fifth rear flat in less than 2,500 miles on the Fuji - something is wrong. On the last two flats, there was no hole in the tire, only in the tubes! I can't figure it out unless there is a problem with the rim tape or a burr inside the rear wheel that I haven't found. I put the exact same make/model tube, tire and wheel on the front a little over 2,000 miles ago. The front tire has had ZERO flats while the rear now has had FIVE - including at least two with no hole or foreign object in the tire. I replaced both wheels between 2,000 and 2,500 miles ago, because they had both started breaking spokes with increasing frequency. One of the joys of being a Clyde.
Your wheels need replaced more often... I was in no mood to test another tube on the Fuji today, so I just had my wife ride home, and come pick it up with the bike rack. Went home, got my backup ride Trek 830 out and rode another 18+ miles anyway.
I know that I have to find out what is causing this!! But at the same time, once I do figure it out, I am considering using Slime self sealing tubes in the future. Good idea? Bad idea? I know it's a little more weight, but I'm not going for speed.

Took off the last two oval chainrings this morning and replaced them with 30 tooth round chainrings like I had already done on a couple of bikes .
I think my body is going to like the change .
One bike has a 12-28 rear cassette, the other, a 12-30. Smooth transition between gears and now I can spin up those hills . My mashing days are long gone !

Took off the last two oval chainrings this morning and replaced them with 30 tooth round chainrings like I had already done on a couple of bikes .
I think my body is going to like the change .
One bike has a 12-28 rear cassette, the other, a 12-30. Smooth transition between gears and now I can spin up those hills . My mashing days are long gone !
