Mathias,
That is a pretty expensive tool finder your wife is using. I trust she is finding quality tools like Snap-On and Mac. Smiles, MH

Just picked this up yesterday after my opening online bid carried it at a nearby auction house. I'm guessing it was ridden a few times and put in storage for 20-odd yrs. Amazingly the elastomers in the T2 aren't powder yet. Trying to decide if I should move it along or start playing with cockpit parts. I have a Cigne that is begging to be installed on a 26" mtb or a Wald might be a better option.

Currently working through the mostly-stock Shimano STX stuff that came on my Trek 930 CL find, cleaning and overhauling.

Wrenched on my old Specialized Hardrock for about a half hour trying to figure out a clunk slight miss true on the rear wheel dive train checked everything still a big clunk. Took this long to realize it had a marble size rock solidly stuck in the tire tread removed the rock and everything was great can't believe it took me nearly an hour of wrenching to spot a good size rock banging on the frame.

Looks like on this thread I'm destined to play the sad clown. Today was a comedy of errors, which was a continuation from the weekend.
I've got this Cannondale H400 hybrid, you see, that I've been using as my winter bike since I bought it used in aught-seven. It's starting to get pretty ratty, but I figured it's got One More Winter in it... so I put on a new chain... couldn't make it fit.. remembered I needed a half link... went to the basement.. found a half link (yay!)... found out it was some freakish big size (boo!) and wouldn't fit (BMX??)... so on Monday, I went to the MSU campus bike store and got a two half links, and promptly dropped one in the garage that I still haven't found. It's been like that.
During the test ride, the shifting was wonky and then I found the bottom bracket cable guide had fallen off. Probably corrosion.. I found the guide and put it somewhere -- I forget where -- but no matter, the bolt fell off in the dark, probably from corrosion, and maybe there was an insert that went missing also, because I don't see any threads and the hole in the BB is huge.
Today, then, I was going to get this black beauty back on the road. I decided a piece of tubing, judiciously held on with some hemp twine and a P clamp of @thumpism's trek would get me through the winter. Here's a picture of my handiwork. You see the problem yet?
Yes indeed, the shifter mechanism is on the drive-side chain stay... which is on the right side of the bike... unless it's upside down.
So I got to reroute the housing after exercising the rustic part of my vocabulary. And I got a new shifter cable out of my stash.. and then found it was a few inches too short. At that point I packed it in. Maybe I'll ride it tomorrow anyway; the roads have snow and ice, and the low is 20 F tonight, so that'll be the right speed anyway.
BTW you can see what salt does to your bike even if it's aluminum. It ain't pretty.
Finally, I can't imagine why the previous owner thought it was a good idea to scratch his driver's license number into the down tube, but there it is... I blacked out the last few digits because I'm a sensitive soul.
Thank you for listening. I feel better now.
cheers -mathias

I could tune that right up for you.

Cheap seats with a good view
Saddles from ACH57 showed up
The Ritchey got stuck on TREK 420 I can’t sell.
i think the 27.2mm seatpost is too big.
anybody got a 27.0mm they want send me for the cost of shipping? I got like 6 posts at 27.2mm. I think they are breeding.

WV is not flat..
The before and almost finished after. These 750's are pretty cool. And I just realize when I looked at the picture that I put the rear tire on backwards. Gotta stop working on bikes when I'm tired.

I got a nice set of Mafac Competitions and I’m glad to discover that the shorter arms are fine on my Mk I. Replaces the Racers with a touch more panache. I’ll polish everything up over the winter.

My Bilenky
IMG_6502 by Grady Linehan, on Flickr
Going with Ross "Bullmoose" mtb bars with integrated quill.
DT friction shifters, but I haven't figured out which ones yet. Lots of them in the box here.
Simworks "Homage" 700x43s
A Wald front basket with a Swift Sugarloaf and a Nitto/Simworks "On the Road" rear rack.
I thought about selling the bike after I picked up my Fairlight Faran but I thought it might be fun to have an upright gravel tourer for a season.

@gomango, the last bike I rehabbed here I decided to go with an upright setup. My intended use differs - local errands, appointments, etc. - but I have to say I enjoy the changeup.
I'd love to see pics of the Bilenky post changeover.

Working on updating my snow removal equipment a couple decades. Moving it from C&V to just "old". $1K vehicles don't come without repairs needed.

Been cranking out the bikes for the Bike Exchange. Finished a beautiful Black Raleigh Competition the other day. It didn't need much. Just a thorough clean and wax plus tires and cables. Last Sunday I brought a blue Peugeot mixte in. Same deal as the Raleigh. I just cleaned it up and waxed it. I did change the front derailleur and moved the shifters from the stem to the upright bars. Today went in to the shop to try to unstick the bottom bracket cup on a 74? Ron Cooper. Also took home a 60's J.C Higgins, with a gas pipe frame and Campi Rear derailleur , shifters, and bottom bracket cable guide. the Higgins will get some lower spec suntour parts and the ron Cooper will get the Campi .
One of the nicest I have done.
Ron Cooper frame laying out for down tube decals
Made in Austria? for JC Higgins. Frame is crudely assembled of low end components but used Campagnolo rear derailleur?

Wrenching on the '81 UNIVEGA Specialissima - the BB had not been touched since the day it rolled off when it was produced. Nice components and should be a great winter project.

They make a great all purpose bike, for sure.
A friend just gifted me one that had been hanging in his garage for years.
I might just go in a similar direction, but I have several sets of older racks to add to the mix.
They make great errand/trail/lake bikes if you add racks and a Wald basket.
