It's been awhile since I've received a decent freebie.Picked this one up today. Another one to add to my ever growing Specialized bunch. lol First plan is the usual strip and rebuild but I'll be upgrading the components. Future is a strip and rattle can repaint.

What I know about MTBs couldn’t fill a thimble but this sad thing was leaned up against some trash cans so I couldn’t let neglected gold(?) get tossed. The brakes are snappy and it came with an extra set of tires+tubes so into the car it went. It is made in Taiwan and says things like Altus and Exage ES on some of the bits. Steel frame FWIW. Any additional insight is welcome.

It's from 1993 and has similar components to my Rockhopper Sport, meaning it was a midrange bike that probably had an MSRP of just over $500.

Seat post wasn’t stuck, wheels spin well and brakes work well while on the stand. I can only get high and low on the front rings. Looking into that…

The kiddo outgrew her 24” and I knew she’d fuss if it wasn’t a girls bike. Picked this up free (thanks OfferUp!), took it apart, sanded it down and rattle-canned it, cleaned and reinstalled parts.
The bike isn’t worth what I spent on the grips, but she picked the color, helped spray it and helped reassemble it so yay for scoring daddy/daughter time and some vested interest in her bike. (The saddle was off her old bike-i hate it, she loves it)

Picked up this mid-70s Libertas for a song/saved from the potential trash heap because of a bent front fork. The frame itself is 531 main triangle and probably hi-ten stays/fork, but dang if that 1st-gen Dura Ace black series isn't in amazing shape!

I didn’t see that in here—did you post for a Craigslist ad in Flagstaff AZ? The fork was damaged enough that it came down in price quite a bit. Wouldn’t be safe to ride as-is but the groupset is in great shape still!

1972 Libertas Mann Road Bike 58cm - $150 (Flagstaff)I’ve had this bike for a few years and rode it sparingly as a townie bike. It’s in good shape. Could probably use a tune as I haven’t ridden it this year. It has downtube shifters which shift by feel so it takes a bit getting used to.

you were on it! And yes; bent fork. The front wheel didn’t match the rear but was era-appropriate, so there was probably a front-end collision back in the mid-late 70s that wrecked
the original front wheel and put this bike into the rafters for the last 40 years. It sold for $75; I’m using the 1st gen dura ace for another build—the full build kit is in really nice shape still

My buddy that rode with me garagesaleing moved down to Tennessee. He pulled this out at his local garbage site for me, lol. I guess when gas drops a buck or two he'll be driving out to visit his mom and pull another trailer of crap back.

Another knee-jerk reaction to a higher-end rigid mtb for cost of a tank of gas. All original down to the Deore DX pedals and funky tapered TCO post. Made in Japan, I assume Panasonic. I noticed other years are Prestige, this looks to be lesser grade. Still feels reasonably thin-walled.

I originally posted this in the Craigslist thread for someone else to grab. I live in Northern California and saw this was listed in the L.A. area for $200. This bike was one step below the Team and Pro Miyatas of that era. Shockingly, it lingered for weeks. I went to SoCal to visit my mom, and it was still there, so I reached out to the seller. After I explained that I would not part it out and that it would be restored, he insisted that I take it for $160. The hoods, toe straps, and tires are shot. The rest of the bike is impeccable and all original. It must have been ridden for a few years and then hung up for about 30 in a dry garage. A little, very light surface rust on a few of the components. The paint is impeccable. Very subtle rainbow metallic flakes in the black. A real looker. All Shimano 600 EX. First generation SIS shifters. Wheels spin smooth and rims are true. A thorough cleaning, repack all of the bearings, new cables, tires, toe straps, brake hoods, and bar tape and this bike will be close to mint. I have no interest in the flick stand or the old Cateye computer. DM me if you want them. I will ship for cost of postage.
