It was apparently important enough for you to start a thread...And you've got nothing.

Maybe the problem isn't with other riders.

I get it - a lot of people feel that others are looking down at them when they have a poor self image and they project, assuming that others must see them the same way. Nah - they weren't thinking that. In fact, you barely even registered. Don't be so hard on yourself.
you figured me out fully! thank you!

I know that is true because I have been forced off the bike path 2 or 3 times because they were not watching where they were riding.

Or maybe the bike belongs to an actual racer who has long legs.

You always seem unable to grasp that some people's goals and preferences (and even body dimensions, apparently) differ from yours.

If you're the one that went off the bike path 2 or 3 times, maybe you weren't watching where you were riding.

I will say that a jack@*$ who was doing an outreach presentation for the local club started in on "if your bike doesn't have at least 105 you'll probably have a hard time keeping up", and I'm never going near that club. These people do exist.

The rider of that bike must be 8 feet tall or have some very unusual body proportions.

I think a lot of what gets interpreted as elitism comes from the fact that it's possible for your average Joe Schmo cyclist to be training on the same roads at the same time as very good, very experienced cyclists, and that often cyclists ride in groups, and in those groups the very good, very experienced cyclists do not want to put their bikes, bones, and skin at risk by allowing or encouraging not very good, not very experienced cyclists to ride with them.
to be fair the most visible example of “very good, very experienced cyclists that often ride in groups” are group rides like spectrum which frankly can be a menace to the local cycling community and can be interpreted as an example of obnoxious elitist roadies who think they are better than everyone. Most of them are nice, but it can come across that way

Of course they exist - they're people and some people are *******s. But to say that "a good number" are elitist? Nah, ******** - that's quite the opposite of my experience.

Yeah, but you've got matinee idol looks, you're fashionably attired, have guads of steel and you ride a bike that'll make all of the Johnny Lunchpails envious - who's gonna be snobbish towards you?
