As an editorial aside, it is always strange to me that the Rivendell aesthetic is to go with very low end spec on the "most complicated" parts (Sram Eagle derailleurs and Microshift shifters) and then go with ridiculously high end on the simplest parts (Paul brake levers, Nitto...)

And I can't get used to those "bordering-on-cargo-bike" long chain stays.

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bi...468419060.html

Brand new 51cm Rivendell Joe Appaloosa frame. 650B, LOADED with Paul C - $4,400 (Medford)

Selling for my friend who ordered two brand new Rivendell frames for herself and her partner. Apparently they decided that they should only keep one so their other Riv (an A. Homer Hilsen) stays and this one is up for sale.

It has seen no miles beyond a ride or two around the parking lot and the pictures show it. The frame was taped with helicopter tape to protect the paint before being built up. Everything is brand new. Details on this insane build, LOADED with Paul Comp, White Ind, Dynamo, etc. below.

Rivendell Joe Appaloosa, 51cm
Tosco 55cm Bars
Paul Motolite Brakes
ESI Chunky Grips
Paul Love Levers
Nitto Technomic 225 Quill Stem
Blue Lug Brass Spacers 5mm
White Industries M15 Rear Hub
Schmidt Son28
Busch & Muller IQ-X Dynamo Headlight
Velocity Quills rims
Ultradynamico Cava tires
Brooks Cambium C17 saddle
DT Swiss Competition Spokes
DT Swiss Brass 12mm Nipples
Stan's Tubeless Tape
Muc-Off Tubeless Valves
Riv Silver 38x24 with Guard
SRAM Eagle GX Derailleur
SRAM Eagle NX Cassette
SRAM Eagle GX Chain
Microshift SRAM Eagle Bar End Shifter
Paul Components Thumbies Shifter Mounts
Brake and Shifter Cables

If you've read this far you know what this is and it's worth. Asking price is less than what is into it, but not by much given everything is literally brand new.
  • do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers
It is kind of an odd build. Lots of eye candy, though.

I've read of bar end shifters mounted as thumbies with an adapter, but those don't look like any bar end shifters I've seen. Did the seller mis-speak?

Probably priced high but seen very often, especially outside Canada.

Giles Bertrand 60cm Quebec Built 80s Road Bike - $850 (Orland)

Rare Bertrand road bike. 60cm. Columbus tubing. Hand built in Quebec. Open 4cd Mavic rims on the 600EX hubs. Brake set is still new in the box. Brooks B17 saddle. New tires, bar tape and cables. Probably never fully assembled. Will build if necessary but the brakes are very valuable new in the box so that will be up to the new owner. 53zero-321-609eight

Regarding the $4,400 Appaloosa.

>> Asking price is less than what is into it, but not by much given everything is literally brand new.

As a guy I know in the car world likes to say, "that's just the seller exercising his First Amendment rights."

I'm not a big fan of the "I know what it cost me, so I know what you need to pay" school of pricing. Good for him if he can get it, but good luck with that. How many buyers can there be? If they're far away, add shipping.

Most of the fun, to me anyway, is to build up a bike "just so." Doesn't really matter if it's new, classic, or an old clunker. It seems a lot of you guys feel the same way. So yeah, if this bike really speaks to me, we'll work out a deal, but if I get a ten percent discount over new, I'll just call Rivendell. First owner, warranty, etc.

Anything used gets a starting price in my mind of "half of street price new." Then adjust upward for nearly new and good condition, like in this case, or downward if needed. Used goods are not trivial to sell. Nobody NEEDS your bike or car or whatever you're selling.

Lots of people NEED my cash.
There is a difference that many fail to understand.

When I'm selling something used -- I've sold a couple dozen used cars over the years, usually in a day or two -- I feel I have to give the buyer a reason to bUy my stuff over someone else's.

I'll get off my soap box now.
This is a pet peeve of mine.

cheers -mathias

BB Pre-Converted!

1972 Schwinn Supersport - $120 (North Raleigh)

Posted 2022-04-09 20:04

"Did your cardiologist tell you to take up exercise? I call this bike the HeartMender 2000.

I have too many bikes and as much as I love this rig, it has to go. 1972 Schwinn Supersport. Color is Opaque Blue. Its been modified with a single alloy crank and some Schwinn Stingray riser bars. So it is a five speed and not a ten speed. Supersports were a cut above their electro forged cousins, the Continentals and Varsitys in that they have filet brazed 4130 Chromoly Steel and came stock with alloy wheels. I loved riding this bike on the Neuse River Trail and did several 20 mile trips. If you're an older rider not trying to break speed records but to enjoy the scenery this is a great bike for you. This bike is a looker!!! Perfect for the seaside boardwalk or cruising in the campgrounds. You will get compliments.

Photo edit: I replaced the Black Schwinn grips with powder blue rubber grips and the racy seat for a much more comfortable aftermarket seat.

Negatives: It has a few nicks and scrapes with mild surface rust and it makes some clicking I can't locate when I ride it.
Price includes a spare back wheel.
Warranty: Buy the bike and ride it for two weeks and if you don't like it, I'll give you your money back if you return it unbroken.
Cash only please. If $120 seems high, go price the cheapest bike at Walmart and get back with me.

bicycle frame material: steel

bicycle type: road
brake type: caliper
condition: fair
electric assist: none
frame size: 23 inch
handlebar type: riser
make / manufacturer: Schwinn
model name / number: Supersport
suspension: none (rigid)
wheel size: 27 in"

58 cm Ritchey Road Logic

https://reno.craigslist.org/bik/d/re...464266941.html

Ritchey Road Logic 58cm c-t-c frameset. Early 2000s vintage - have email into Ritchey hq to get better info on year. Ritchey Nitanium butted tubing. Matching steel fork with long 1-inch steerer tube (cut it or leave it adjustable). BB shell is 68mm w/English threading. Beautiful red paint. Includes very nice Chris King Headset.

Frame and fork in outstanding shape. The workmanship is truly something to behold. Previous owner said he put maybe 500 miles on it. Very cool cast shrouded rear dropouts. TIG welds are very clean. No rust, no dents. Couple of very small flaws (see pics). One small thin scratch and some wear to the “Nitanium” sticker, likely from a frame pump head from previous owner.

I’m the second owner. First guy had it as a garage queen mostly. I built it thinking a 58 cm frame was worth a try since i couldn’t find a Ritchey in 56. I built it up and rode it about 25 miles on the Skyline McCarran Mayberry loop. Lively, silky ride. Solid climber and super stable descender. Classic Ritchey looks and handling that keeps folks searching for these all steel frames. Just a bit too big for me, but just right for you if you ride a 58cm c-t-c. (It accepts 28mm tires no problem)

We can meet up if you’re in Reno. Farther out and we can talk about meeting halfway. I’d rather not ship it to prevent handling damage. These frames are no longer made in an all-steel configuration.

I also have an era-correct 1-inch steerer Ritchey carbon fork that i can include for an extra cost. Just ask when we talk. Check out the pics. The steerer on this one would have about 2inches of steerer exposed once fitted, so a bit more aggressive than the steel one.
