Wheelset Advice - Mavic Ellipse v. American Classic 420

Hi all,

Found both wheelsets on eBay for £250 and was wondering if anyone's got a preference for one over the other. The Mavics seem fairly popular across the board but couldn't find much on the AC wheels. The one review I found was stellar, and the wheels seem to retail for more than the Mavics, but I figured I'd check if you guys have any feedback.

Many thanks!

I have the mavics. The mavics have an externally threaded axle and use nuts to hold the wheel on the dropouts. The AC wheels have an internally threaded axle and uses cap screws for 8mm allen keys to lock the wheel down. I prefer nuts to screws. Also the rear mavic wheel is double sided (cogs on both sides) and I think the AC is single sided.

Alright cool, thanks. I didn't know about the allen key bolts; not terribly keen on those.

The allen key bolts are okay for front wheels. I personally stay away from them only for the reason that you need to pull out another tool to swap wheels.

Got me a combination box end 14/15mm wrench. One tool for the job.
