NBD - 1992 Schwinn Crosspoint

So I was on the hunt recently for a new-used bike. At $200 max my budget didn't allow much and I was coming across many 80's department store mountain bikes.

Well I held out and I'm glad I did. Today I found a used Schwinn Crosspoint in pretty decent shape. Mostly original - the grips have been changed as well as the saddle. The shifters I'm unsure about. It has Wolber GTX 2 rims on it.

Anyways, it's a huge improvement over the 30 year old Venture (Sears) bike I've been using, which was too big for me anyways.

I'm looking forward to spring and getting back into cycling after a bit of a hiatus.

I had one of those a few years ago, dark green. Nice solid hybrid from the early 90s, I think that was the top of the line "cross" model those years. Big tire clearance, wide gearing, lots of rack/fender mounts. Should be a good one.

Sweet bike!

As you probably are aware- the Schwinn "cross" bikes were among the original "hybrids" as an attempt to cross an ATB with a road-ish bike- which ended up being a great all-rounder. It looks like the Crosspoint was the highest level model with a full CrMo frame/fork and Deore LX level components...

I have a Crosspoint and a Crosscut. They're great for riding around more upright or if you wanted wider tires. I did replace the stem and handlebars because my wrists didn't like the straight bars.

In 94 Schwinn replaced the straight bars on the Crosscut with the butterfly bars. These have some fairly unique brake levers,
