Shimano Nexus/Alfine 8 Speed Segmented Cable Run
I've read about one person who tried this somewhat unsuccessfully but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck running a Shimano Alfine/Nexus with a segmented cable housing run? It looks like the housing from the Nexus cassette joint to the chainstay cable stop will be a tight squeeze since they are not parallel with each other.

Done this with no issues on my personal bike. If the chainstay stop is placed aprox 4"+ from the cassette joint the casing can simply conform into a shallow "S" shape. Andy

Also put an 8 speed Nexus in my tandem and used segmented housing, again with no issues.
That bike has since been sold.

So I assume you attached a clamp on chainstay? Any recommendations? Mine is brazed on and is pretty close to the cassette joint. Waiting for my yellow and brown washers to show up or else I would just try it. Thanks

I have done it more than once as well with no issues. Currently running a 7 speed Nexus on one of my own bikes with the cable running down the seat stay because the cable routing on the frame is on the top tube.Just made for a neater install.
Also put an 8 speed Nexus in my tandem and used segmented housing, again with no issues.

On the bike that I ran the cable down the seat stay, I ran housing from the rear stop on the top tube to the cassette joint. I have never used the chain stay cable stop on any IGH installations as it makes for too tight a bend to the cassette joint.

Assumes cable pull on the cassette joint, when not changing gears, is undesirable.
I was under the impression that full housing allows for a slacker cable and hence less pull on the cassette joint without impacting gear changes. Of course this requires housing to be of higher quality to minimize compression over the longer housing.
Segmented housing requires a tauter (compared with full housing) cable with perhaps negative effect on cassette joint. Any slack in the cable shows up between cable stops and needs to be taken care of before the cable pull can change the gear.

When you use segmented housing, is there any difference in the tautness of the cable for derailleurs and IGHs?

I found a chain stay stop and installed it right at 4 inches and so far everything is working well. Thanks
