Water bottle cages can wear out

I wore a hole in my down tube bottle cage after 35,000 miles since resuming bike computer use in 2010 and unknown count back to 1997:

Is that aluminum?

I've got over 40k miles on a pair of King Cages, which are stainless steel. They still look like new.

My carbon cages are going strong many tens of thousands of miles later. Though some finish has worn off.

That's not a weight-bearing hole! Get a bottle and get back out there!

You're using the wrong bottle lube.

My stainless cages don't put black marks on the bottles like aluminum does. And they are springy, so they grip the bottles very well, but it's still easy to put the bottle back without looking. Essentially the same weight as aluminum, and they last forever.

I had an aluminum cage break on a long ride. Went to King cages after that.

King Cages are awesome. Super nice guy running the show and really solid sturdy cages that could last a lifetime. They look like your standard bottle cage that everyone and their grandmother has done a variation on but these are top notch quality and Made in 'Murica. Plus Ti is fly.

I've got SS Kings on my ti bikes. 20 and 15k miles. They look (and act) brand new.

Acid rain. Very common upon Slyline Blvd. Witness the Tafoni Caves near Woodside if you don't believe me.

Question is, what does the inside of your kidneys look like after processing all those liquids and getting pounded by rough roads?

Somewhere there is an enormous landfill full of ruined plastic water bottles, each one with a corresponding hole in them from contact with the bottle cage.
