Vintage Ralligh
Have six speed Ralligh (Really Ralligh) with 3/16 inch bearings in front wheel. How many bearings in the front wheel?

So the OP didn't count how many balls came out? If in doubt leave one ball of space in the element when reassembling. One ball too many will result in the inability to adjust the hub consistently and also the rim will spin and go through "wobbles" matched to every two revolutions. Andy

Thank you for your note. Good to hear that one ball less will not be a serious problem. Have no way to get a manual for the Ralligh - it is a vintage bike but in excellent condition. Trying to restore the bile.

Hi Bill,
It would appear that 12 could go in. I doubt that 12 is correct but wanted to check, Since it is a vintage bike and probably made in England I would like to be sure. Just got
a note from Andrew and he tells me that I can use one less than called for without serious damage.

12 bearings is a number I've never come across, 11 too. 10 is very common. I would start with 10 and see how the spin feels. Then if you are still wondering try 11 and/or 12. Sometimes doing this stuff requires some discovery and judgement, and not someone giving you an answer. Andy

ONE ball too many becomes very obvious vs the correct number with just a modicum of attentiveness. Start "under & work up".
I know "some" Shimano hubs take 11 balls/side. (HB-4600) I really wouldn't expect 12.
I've ran into some Huffys that used 1/4" balls up front. Totally unexpected at the time.
Never say never on stuff you can't see.
Does the hub have any brand/model# on it? I presume not.
