Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's a pretty flat, easy ride. Make a day of it, don't kill yourself on the way out and it'll be fine. Whenever I get over there with the bike again, I'd like to finally get that done, too, with a stop at Triple Crossing, Fulton, for a beer and pizza, if that level of civilization is up and running.

The Cap comes in right at the river, so it couldn't be too far out of the way. I'm an equal opportunity eater of pizza. The stuff at Triple Crossing is actually very respectable, if you like Neapolitan-style.

wife was born and raised in napoli. I know a little something about pizza.
I havnt heard of triple crossing, I’ll def have to take her to check it out. We are huge fans of Puppatela. It’s, near the campus, and there is a wonderful coffee bar across the street from it.

It still ruins the commute most of the time. For once today, it rained during both the morning and afternoon commute, so I didn’t feel bad driving instead of riding.

Dan333SP had me meet him at their other location - they make some really good hazy IPAs, among other things. The pizza at the Fulton location was a nice bonus.

There's that too, yes. Winning the pissing contest without huge days means brutal consistency.

The plan today was 80ish, but the rain put the kibosh on that. It was only through HTFUing that I eeked out 50-something.

I'm supposed to drive out and meet up with my friend for 50 on Sat... today's ride was because I got the dumb idea of riding to the meetup point instead, doing the 50 miler and then riding home. Looks like that'd be 110-ish and pretty doable, pending the start time of the 50. Still undecided, though.

I was wondering who that was riding around richmond. It would be cool to meet up with him one day as well. My best friend lives in Richmond. He used to ride, I am trying to get him back into it.

I went back to the mountain ride I did last week. The lady who came with us last time had to work but a different lady came and brought her boyfriend. He brought his heavy gravel bike to slow himself down a bit, but he is very strong and did fine. She climbs well enough but descends like she is scared. I want to help her with a little coaching but I'd probably be better off to stay out of it. I've mountain biked with her and she descends fine on the mtb but there is a 5 mile descent on the road today and she braked all the way down and looked very uncomfortable doing it.
