From comment #39, it sounds like it depends somewhat on what shifters people use. In my case, it's the Dura Ace 7800 shifters, and I've had two break with those shifters. It seems plausible that shifter design accounts for some of the different experiences people are having. Shimano likely made Dura Ace shifters smaller to reduce weight, causing the bend radius to be smaller than other shifters. My new bike (with the internal routing) has GRX 810 shifters, which feel considerably larger in hand than the DA 7800 ones, so I'm hoping the bend radius will be larger on those.

Okay, a new data point for me. I have a 7800 bike, a 6800 hydro bike, and a 5800 bike with those huge ugly 505 hydro levers. I break cables on the 6800 bike (when I neglect to replace them annually) and listen to the complaints of my friends with tunneled cables.

Internal routing can be heavy if cable housing is included. 2021 Domane SL6

May be I need Di2 to drop weight.

My 2015 Propel is mech and is junk to replace the FD/RD cables. I had such issues with it I custom made a bottom bracket clamp deal for the cable housing and now run the added weight of cable housing internally instead of bare cable.

If I have to do it again, I swear I'm going Di2. Run it that LAST time.

If you have to run conduit and are worried about weight, use this stuff instead of actual housing. It's also great for reducing friction, e.g., at under-BB guides.
