Addiction 2021.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sad!
Man that sucks! You think it's from riding hills, or just more miles than usual?

So, you need to use the passenger side door to get in or out?

If there's one thing that will make you feel old, it's hearing that something that was aimed at younger people than you is now 40 years old.

I think you forget about who you are talking about. When little Ella, who is white with black markings, goes for a ride in the car, she rides in a white/black car. In that car is a black booter seat that has a white sheepskin cushion. And, there is an AC vent that keeps her cool.

She could never be exposed to the weather like that.

Didn’t Mitt Romney popularize something like this?

First 40 miles on the Holdsworth this morning. Felt really nice - definitely a more aggressive position that I need to adapt to. Overall it's very smooth and not terribly stiff.

Climbing in the saddle feels good - feels quite "springy". Maybe that was just the seatpost flexing. I kind of wish it responded a little differently out of the saddle but it's fine. I suppose if I actually lose some weight it will feel a little differently.

Very confidence inspiring downhill, I set a PR coming back down the main climb today. Kind of hoped to PR the climb, but I just wasn't feeling it and it's got direct sun over a lot of it at the time of day I was climbing.

Overall though, I set PRs on 17/31 segments and at least 3rd quickest efforts on 24/31 segments so I'll call that a good first ride

You increased performance by not hauling around unneeded water. Kudos.

Some HTFU needed for a hard ride at 97, too.

Maybe. That test is so nonspecific I would not draw any major conclusions.

I pride myself on not watching TV. However, mrs datlas got a free 1 week trial of Apple TV and we are watching “Ted Lasso,” and I must admit it’s TV worth watching.

Sad!
A very short ride today, during which I felt it in both knees. I came home and packed the bike up. So be it. Tough getting old.

You are correct sir. Putting it back together takes me about an hour and a half, taking my time. Breaking it down and packing it takes about a half hour.

Recovery week for me and no one else wants any of the podia? Ok, I guess I'll just take the hat trick. Or the triple crown; I'm feeling fancy.

Yes. Not more miles than usual, but more time and effort getting those fewer miles. And the fact that I'm in very poor shape coming in. Two years ago, on my tour across Ohio, I rode more and bigger hills with two rings instead of three. No issues.
