Once again, the weather gods have...
Yes, once again, I had planned a week long tour and once again the forecast is rain and storms for the entire week. 
.
Of course, I could have done it during the drought, but thought; nah, it's too hot.
As the saying goes; Timing is everything.

Well I just uploaded the video of our summer tour in northern Japan; not only did it rain but roads and houses were flooded. We just got on with it. Everything is and experience.

I rode mostly across PA in September. Started in Vienna, OH. Got poured on crossing the Alleghenies, destroying my camera in the process. On the last day I crossed into NJ for a bit. After only about 6 miles I stopped to adjust my seat post height and snapped the collar bolt. Had to make the call of shame. At least I was in a nice town for something like that to happen.
Saw a bunch of deer, some domesticated buffalo, two bald eagles, blue herons, black cormorants, some sort of snake and a ruffed grouse, which is the state bird of PA. Heard owls every night.
Rode behind five young Amish children (three boys and two girls) who had just been let out of school (one-room schoolhouse) and riding scooters home. All five were shoeless. Really cool experience.

Aren't cormorants the weirdest darn birds? They sound a heck of a lot like a sea lion, I think, and they sit around in trees way more than they fly. 🤔
I'm just now coming back into West Sacramento, after a slow ride down to Fairfield-Suisun City, coming through Vacaville, Dixon and Davis, yet again. I was tempted to keep going South, but have important financial stuff to tend to first.
In the Suisun City Raley's (a grocery store chain), they have some trivia stuff on a wall. It says Suisun is the old Indian word for West Wind, which is pretty strong, as you approach the Pacific Ocean there. It's not exactly on the ocean's coastline, but connected by water, by way of the San Francisco Bay. 😎
Vacaville also comes from Indian names, as in Vaca Valley.

Daytime temps can be 10-14 C. So, not bad, but when the sun goes down, it can get chilly. It is the rainy season, but between work and opening from the pandemic, things got too hectic in the "good" season

I rode out of my driveway in Kentucky on September 12th and finished in Adel, Iowa on October 5th, after riding in Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.
Twenty-four days total (including two rest days). 1,642 miles. None of it planned ahead of time, and nearly perfect weather - maybe an hour of light rain total, and one hot, 99F day in Missouri.
Mostly great roads, maybe six or seven bad drivers total. Touring on a mountain bike allows me to take gravel and dirt roads when necessary to avoid busy traffic.
