My Supergoose aka Sprucegoose because of the weight! Mid-80s Mongoose "ATB" model chrome mountain bike. I think the brakes, stem and bars are original, but that is about it. I would like to do a drop bar conversion on this. I am keeping an eye out at the co-op for an appropriate stem to bring the bars up and back. Other work will be some frame saver, some rust removal, and probably some POR-15 around the bottom bracket where it is really bad. Current config is fendered and doesn't have the bar-ends nor that floppy old Cannondale seat bag. Front and rear racks are on the way. Pretty fun little bomber commuter.

Welcome back to riding - it's never too late! Sounds like you have a great plan and a great attitude to match. You're doing what you're supposed to be doing on a bike - enjoying the ride!

Short Cut

Thank you, mountaindave! I'm getting addicted again to riding and I can't think of anything better to become addicted to. This bike is a champ and I've really enjoyed being back in the saddle again.

I built this up a year or so ago and it has become my everyday trail rider. Even with the slightly longer Bomber fork it has quick steering. I can't imagine riding it as originally set up with a 72 degree HA and sub-40" wheelbase.

Yes, all Suntour except the Shimano U-brakes. It even has an XC Pro seat post and those funky Suntour levers with the cable entry out front.

Here is my Specialized Stumpjumper that I bought new in 1988. Repainted with a few mods (chainstay u-brake removed, and a Tange fat fork) in the early 90s by Chas Roberts.
The bike is standard-ish, refreshed with NoS components: Shimano Deore cranks with Tioga chainrings, XT mechs and shifters, XTR brakes, Deore hubs, Mavic rims and stainless spokes. Campagnolo headset, Specialized tig stem, Answer 'bars & Specialized grips, a USE seatpost and a super rare (never seen another) Cinelli OR saddle.
Tyres (English spelling) are Continental Traffics as they're good on the road - bike in semi retirement now.

Here is my 1989 U.S. built MSRacing ProCompXT.

These bikes were only built for one year I believe, before MSRacing morphed into Alpinestars. I rebuilt it using broadly contemporary components I had in my spares box and it rides beautifully.

I had this bike lying around the shed in a terrible condition for a couple of years before finally getting it powder coated and building it up. I would have liked to keep it original but the paintwork really was too bad to fix, and I've always liked B&W as a colour scheme.

My Ritchey Annapurna was custom built for me in 1983. Still has the battered original paint job. This bike has been a few places.

Got it! He said it was a Jamis, but it has no indication of brand at all. I haven't checked the serial number for clues yet, or dated any components. Sticker says Tange 4130 Chromoly fork blades, stays, and frame tubes. The elastomer threaded suspension fork is in perfect condition. It works and looks like new. I am putting the year around 81-84ish. The tires have to GO, they weigh about as much as the frame. I will have this thing looking spiffy in no time. I have lots of parts, and actually have extra vintage mtb wheels.,,,,BD

Date codes for parts? I'll bet there was a chrome fork to match originally. Mongoose perhaps? Whatever it is, very nice find!
