Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Imprzdrvr I make it to Flagstaff and some other places where I can rent a cabin with tall pines around it several times a year . Often times I will take my frankenstein cross bike so that I can ride on the forest roads instead of the paved roads, but also can take the paved roads without any trouble. Where about is Window Rock, I am drawing a blank? Is it near the petrified forest?

The build up of my Onix is going well. Although I bought one wrong tool (it is for Shimano and not campy lock ring) and I need to go to the hardware store for a bolt that the bike shop didn't have. Once I put on the front derailure the chain and tighten the lock ring I am ready to take it out on the road and make lots of adjustments.

Here's mine. I bought the frame (2004 Mitis 2 + carbon) at the beginning of this year. I love it so much. The following are a few pics I've taken over the last 9 months. The latest shot is the one taken outside with Vittoria Rubino Pro tyres.

dragonfly, Window Rock's about three hours east of Flag. We're right on the AZ/NM border a little north and west of Gallup, NM. Too bad about needing a cabin to get into tall pines, they're a short ride away from where I live! (Have to gloat, the best part about living here is being here, you know?)

giant, I had a set of those wheels for about a year. What do you think of 'em? YOu're still riding them, so that says something I suppose. They look dead sexy, but sucked like the suckiest things that ever sucked in a wind.

I've been using those for I think 8 years with no trouble mechanically until this year. I had to get the bearings changed in the front, and the axle reset in the rear. All's fine now. I never had a problem with flex as a lot of riders did, because I'm a skinny fellow. Yes in the wind they are a bugger. Really a bugger, but I suppose that's the down fall of such wide spokes. I had to start using them as day to day wheels as the UCI banned them a long time back.

I don't own it anymore (sold it to get my LOOK 481sl) but it was a beautiful bike.

That bike taught me something very important....not every bike is right for everyone. I loved to just look at that bike, it is one of the best looking bikes I've ever owned. However I could not get comfortable on it. I tried different bars, stems, saddles but to no avail. The LOOK on the other hand fit's as if it were a custom made bike so I am a happy rider once again. BTW it was 15lbs 10oz as you see it, I could have easily got under 15 with a different saddle, seat post, tires and tubes.

2Roadies, As long as what you got fits you and you are happy about it that is what matters. That and that you didn't go spend $10k on a Colagno Ferrari bike. There is nothing like being stoked about your bike.

I took my new Onix out for its inaugerial run last night, and
WWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW it was so quick. I kept up with the fast part of the group that I ride with so much easier than before, and the accelerations and sprinting was so much quicker and took so much less energy. Of course I guess anytime you upgrade 15 years in bike you are going to feel quite a difference. Now I just need to dial in and make a bunch of adjustments.

Woo Hoo, joined the "club" this weekend. Onix in Black/Gray. Test rode on the Fri AM ride. Almost felt like I was sitting on the trainer it was sooo smooth. Of course now the weather forecast for the entire week is rain. Computer from previous bike won't fit so looking at putting on the Shimano Flightdeck.

Rode 100 miles on mine yesterday. The only drawback I could see was that my a$$ couldnt take any more, or I would have ridden 100 more. I have had mine for a little over 600 miles now, and I have no complaints.

mscycler, glad to see you here. I only have about 60 miles on mine so far between Thr night ride and SUnday (I was out of town on Fri and Sat so couldn't ride). I had it a little more dialed in on Sunday's ride and it feels even better.

This a Starship that I put together just before it snowed here. Got 2 rides in before it got to cold. Frame was off of ebay for $355.00. Components are mostly Record. Very responsive and quick. Less then a $1000.00 in to it.

Great price on the Dauphine. I've got the same bike and love it. Have a cold right now and riding my bike makes me cough and hack like some smoker puking his guts out so no riding for now.

$355.00 Frame, $88.00 Record Crank including a used record B.B., New $212.00 Record Shifters, 2004 closeout (20% discount coupon from Performance & Paypal discount coupon), $31.00 Ritchey WCS Stem, $39.95 Ritchey pro bars (discontinued size), $9.00 NOS Saddle, $12.00 aluminum seat post, 110.00 Wheelset, $43.00 set of tires, $30.00 Record Front Derailuer, $78.00 Chorus rear derailuer, Look pedals and chain I had. I added it up in my head, I think it comes to a little over a $1008.00.

By the way, The frame was listed on ebay twice. The first time it was listed it received no bids.
