OK, this isn't something usually seen in C&V but it IS a 1987 so it's old enough and if you look at "C&V" as "Confusing & Vile"........ 
1987 Dahon Stowaway folding bike. They're kind of goofy looking but this thing is a blast to ride and with the 7 speed, 170mm cranks and 53t chainwheel you can get it rolling pretty good, maybe too good for 20 inch wheels LOL.

What is going on here? Is this even the same frame? Did you take a Bianchi and try to turn it into a Galmozzi? Re-routing the rear der cable over the BB?

Small changes to my drop bar '88 GT Karakoram today, crankset and wheels. I swapped the FSA crankset for the CODA I had on my 1990 Diamond Back Interval.

I guess I forgot to mention getting some special order orange paint that barely covered the primer, then getting another orange (which I like better). Oh yeah two sets of decals since I screwed up on the first set. And of course a glamour clear coat.

The Italian Job - 1986 Bianchi Squadra

Just finished this speedy little project. Here's a Before shot from the CL ad:
This was my parts donor bike, a 1998-ish Bianchi Sport SX:
That was a very nice bike, but it was made in Taiwan, which always sort of bothered me. I needed a speedy Italian lightweight in my life.
These next two "after" shots were taken this morning, while prepping for a ride.
Rather than go with the usual upside-down SOMA Oxford handlebar, I decided to use the SOMA Mustache II 3-Speed bar instead. This allowed a sportier, forward-biased riding position - more appropriate for the bike's design and geometry.
According to the 1986 Bianchi catalog (Thanks, @ Bianchigirll!), the stock Squadra weighed 22.5 lbs as-delivered. With my Shimano Deore 1x9 drivetrain swap, this bike weighs a skosh heavier at 23.6 lbs naked (No bags or bottles). That makes it the lightest bike in my stable.
I had transferred the Handsome Cycles® crankset (with 1x plus chainguard ring) over, and it seemed to fit alright, but I was warned about this over on the "What Have You Been Wrenching On Lately?" thread. Sure enough, on one of my test rides I noticed that the crankset had bottomed on the BB spindle, and developed a very slight wobble. Then I got SO LUCKY...
Both cranksets were 130 BCD! So I just swapped the rings over and reused the Ofmega/Bianchi crank on this bike - problem solved. I'll be taking "Sophia" (the name is explained in the "What Have You Been Wrenching On Lately?" thread too) out on a shakedown ride later this afternoon, when I can dress in normal riding gear and not have to emulate Nanook of the North. I'll post my shots from that on the "Where'd You Ride Today" thread.

Thanks! This is my first back-yard paint job. I made the masks in Illustrator, had a local shop cut the vinyl for me. Then:
Step 1 - White coat + first mask
Step 2: Orange Coat, remove 1st mask, add second mask (not shown for some reason)
Step 3: Blue coat. Remove 2nd mask set. And Look, I didn't paint my shoes!
