Addiction 2021.3

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Again, today I had a ride planned. The wife got home from a week long trip to Belize, yesterday afternoon. We passed the entire morning in a bull session. Neither of us was wearing cotton Dockers. I'll try again tomorrow.
September is here. The March of the quasi-North. So ready for it to be over, but it won't be for one more month, and change.
After that, you'll see. You'll ALL see!

I rode by myself yesterday. I was crossing a valley which is very popular with cyclists and a guy on an e-bike passed me. After a couple miles he was still in sight and the road tilted down a bit so I went after him. He had a rear rack and a duffel and a strap was hanging down into the rear wheel.

When I pulled up alongside him he was so startled I thought he might fall off. I warned him about the strap and he stopped to fix it. Shortly after that there was a slight uphill and he caught me easily and thanked me profusely I guess he hasn't received a lot of love from the local roadies.

Today I went to the bike path north of here. I usually don't go there on weekends I was extra careful as there were knuckleheads about. I also saw some of those huge fat tired e-bikes. It looks strange to see a 100 pound girl on a gigantic fat bike. Reminds me of when I saw a lady pushing her e-fat on the bike path looking for a place she could get the thing rolling.

Broke a spoke with about 17 miles left in my 50+ mile ride. It broke in the middle, suggesting debris was the cause. I cannot remember breaking a spoke during this millennium.

IF one bad app[e does not ruin the whole bunch, is that where " I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole" came from?

Josh Allen all the way!!! This could be the Bills' season.

Sports books are ranking Seattle higher than I expected for a Superbowl win.

I do, but not all of it.

I, too, have not broken a spoke this millennium. Probably jinxed it now.

Back when I was obsessed with the Shimano Sante groupset, I found a Schwinn Circuit, 22" frame. It's small for me, but I added a longer seatpost and stem, and Highway One bar in 44cm to replace the Cinelli Giro d'Italia in 40 cm. It works. The bar is a bit low, but I can ride it comfortably - even took it for a 65 mile jaunt back in July!

But I've wished I could get one the next size up. Problem is, they're hen's teeth. I haven't seen one. Till today - on Ebay. 23" frame. 1989, like mine. Original components mostly intact. Seller's asking $800, plus another $200 to ship. That's more than twice what I paid for mine, AND I got ALL the original components.

I think I'll wait a couple months and see if he sells it. If not, I'll lowball him.

Strava has a feature where they show you matched rides you've done on the same route, and tells you whether you're faster or slower than average. Today's ride was the same route as one I did back in May. I gotta say, as someone who spends a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to present data, I think Strava may be somewhat exaggerating a 24 second difference over 3 1/2 hours.....
