Px10?
Hey all, was hoping someone could share some knowledge on how I can tell if the bike I am looking to buy is a px10 or variant model?

Assuming you have photos (can copy from an ad or from an email)
On left side of the page, click on your name.
That will take you to your profile.
On that page, on right side of page, it will show your albums. Add an an album of any photos (preferably from the drive side - where the derailleurs are located).
Return here and ask if someone can add your photos from your album.

That sure looks like a PX 10 (chrome socks, forged simplex drop outs) with some mods since those are clincher wheels. The parts look right for a PX 10. Plus the bike is in great shape.
Most of the ones I've seen had 531 stickers for the fork as well. And I would have thought that the 531 sticker should be in French? But I could be wrong about that.

Those head tube lugs, though? I’m not an expert, but they look funny to me. Again, though, I could easily be wrong.

This early seventies PX10, that I had years ago, is exactly as it rolled off of the assembly line (for lack of a better word). I bought it from a fellow who lived in Alaska. The stickers were all in French...

So in the description of the ad, the seller states it is a px10 record Du monde, completely refurbished with correct parts. 53.5cm frame size, 54.5cm top tube, full Reynolds 531 steel frame with new decals

Don't know, don't care looks like a great bike, so if the price is right, BUY IT!
ETA - $1k price for a repaint must be what stopped you. That is a lot.

For me a it would be a "Hard Pass" @ $990.00, no matter how good it looks...at that price you are approaching bikes of better quality. JMO

Randy’s prices reflect international sales years ago. The chances of the average seller getting $1000 for a local PX10? Zero. Also the fork does not have a 531 sticker so I’m guessing it’s a step down.

Do you know anything about the seller? Knowing that it’s a repaint, I just would really worry about those lugs, that the seller is either uninformed or being deceitful. Also, like the others, I would start my search at a lower price point if vintage bikes were a new hobby. Asking folks here is a good first step — this group is generally quite helpful and generous with opinions (for better or worse!).
EDIT: Sorry, you said the ad specifies “refurbished,” not necessarily a repaint. I dunno, I still get a funny feeling from this one.

When I look at the rims I am thinking Araya or Ukai. The rear dropout, for some reason, also looks stamped instead of forged. Caveat Emptor.

Those lugs look awfully thinned out and long point.
However, I am not at all anything but a novice.

I just looked at this thread again and cannot help but wonder if the bike is a PX10, or even a Peugeot. The lugs look off to me as does the fork crown. Perhaps it is a model later than the two I owned. My best guess is a repaint but the decals are also wrong. I never saw a PX10 with stripe bands.

They look like neither the ornate Nervex nor the plainer Prugnat lugs that are known on these bikes. They look like the chunkier facsimiles that show up on Japanese bikes of the era. What’s the serial? Also, where did he find it? That’s important to know.

While not a perfect match, the 1977 PRN10E seems very close.
