Best vintage Trek MTB find to date!
I scooped this awesome Trek 890 today from FB marketplace. I often think of bikes in the same way fender guitars age. This is a closet classic! Great paint and it came with original manual with the hang tags!!! In the saddle bag was a park peanut butter wrench! The odometer says 1561 miles, but I haven’t tested the functionality yet. The only thing that looks to not be original is the stem. At some point it was switched to a high riser style. Easy to see why when you look at the original. Thanks for looking!!!

Nice one. I've always been intrigued by the 890. Won't see many longer chainstays than this. Perfect for cushy gravel riding, I would imagine.

Definitely a grail bike, don't think I've ever seen one in the wild, even here just down the road from the center of its universe. Last time I saw a brass Trek badge of that generation that shiny was when I bought my new 613 in '82. Bonus points for the Huret mechanical odo.
BTW, is there any significance to the fact that next to the pink Huffy is a can of gasoline?

Interesting that Trek made this a factory "hybrid-ified" version of their 1984 MTB lineup. Yours is in great shape!

Great find
I like the early trek lugged mtb. This one is extra cool because I think it has standard road bike tubing (1” top tube) so it should be really plush. Congrats

While most recognize the early Stumpjumpers, fewer realize how nice the early Trek MTBs were. I've had two 1984 850s.

beautiful. also great saddle! got to be original- preserve it as you won't find anything modern as good.
