Speedplay Pedal System
I need to get a new pair of road shoes.
Is there a preferred shoe manufacturer that works well with the Speedplay system?
My feet are narrow.
As far as price, I was thinking around $400.

With the adapters, they'll work fine with any road shoe. Pick the shoe that makes your feet the happiest. $400 should get you into a good shoe in nearly any brand.

My rule of thumb for using Speedplay pedals is to use shoes with stiff soles. At $400, that shouldn't be a problem.
Some manufacturers offer special-order shoes pre-drilled for the four-bolt Speedplay mounting system. Bont, for instance. But most riders are happy using the three-bolt adapters that come with the cleats.

Get shoes with a stiff sole and whatever brand is comfortable for you. The key to mounting SP cleats is to have them mounted so the cleat ends up close to flat without bowing to fit the curvature of the sole. Use the different shims supplied with the cleats if needed to achieve this because too much bowing in the sole can make it hard to click in and release and if really severe, cleats can pop off the pedals easily.

I agree with Sonofamechanic, I have narrow feet and find Sidi's fit well and the Speedplay pedals and cleats work very well.
