Nope. He used to own own an IT company and made a ton of $$$$ when it went public. He is now a venture capitalist who divides his time between serving on some boards, driving fancy cars, riding fancy bikes, and playing golf. That said, he is not snooty and a decent guy all around.

My understanding is that with cable-actuated disk brakes, only one pad moves, which then pushes the rotor into the other pad. Can you tell which one's rubbing, the fixed or the moving side?

BUT I Eric F has it right on centering, though a trick I've learned is to take the wheel out after you loosen the caliper mounting bolts, fold a thick business card over the disc, then reinstall the wheel with the card in between the brake pads and the disk. Squeeze the lever, and while squeezing it, tighten up the caliper mounting bolts enough so the caliper can't move. Take the wheel out, remove the card, replace the wheel and check the brakes for rub. If there's no rub, tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

I've used this method to get rid of rub on the Canyon. Works great!

Some cable discs only move on one side and the rotor flexes to effect braking. In other words, one pad is fixed and doesn't retract like a hydraulic brake does.

Went to rei to get some lube. Got new toe covers as well for the winter times.

Plan was to get a dry wax and rock and roll gold standard. Dry wax was for the ritchey and the madone, currently only croc pot waxing the ritchey.

The madone I keep as clean as possible and use a standard liquid lube.

The cervelo, is my work horse and I tend to not keep it as clean, I use the rock and roll gold to kind of kill two birds with one stone.

I ended up getting the Muc Off dry. I’ve used it before and like it, but now that I brought it home I don’t think it’s a “dry wax” so that kind of defeats the purpose.

They didn’t have any big bottles of rock and roll gold so I ended up with this.





Used it on the cervelo tonight, but initial thoughts are negative. Smells like straight gasoline and it’s feels like wd-40.

I honestly don’t know if mine is like that. Brake says “Hayes CX five” lemme Google it….Google says static inner brake pad, I will have to figure out how to move it a mm or be lazy and accept a small rub. It’s the fixed side that is rubbing.

Starting to get a little concerned about my left knee. Over the course of about 3 weeks, i’ve noticed pain in my left knee when walking. I don’t notice it at work, but as soon as I get home I would feel it. The pain would start before I even got a ride in, and I don’t have the pain when riding. The pain wasn’t consistent enough for me to give it much thought,
but today it hurt most of day. I can feel it now as I lay in bed.

The pain is prolly only about a 4 out of 10, but I wonder what it could be.

I think it smells more like kerosene. I think it works fine. Just wipe off the excess because it will build up if you overdo it. I also wear latex gloves when working with it because it makes my hands smell like kerosene. Good stuff.

The caliper mounts must be adjustable? if so the method gj suggested should do it. Just put the card on the fixed side.

I've worked for a number of family run dealerships. One was run by the third generation with the fourth gen getting ready (still in college). Successful store, nice people, and the owner would see any of us in his office about any problem we had. His son, fourth gen, would work in the shop when he was not in school. Great kid, always do anything to help, cleaning, moving cars, getting supplies, whatever. They insisted on honesty and integrity. After working for them I thought all dealers would be that way. Boy was I wrong.
Other families I have worked for have treated employees as expendable. I had the son of an owner tell me I wasn't smart enough to know if a manager was any good after I expressed concern that a new manager was not up to the job, (he wasn't). He told me that he knew more than I did (he didn't) and I couldn't see the whole picture from my low position. Dufus.

Another store was run by the father for years and when he passed away his 2 sons took over. They would only show up to grab some cash on their way to some coke fueled ski trip. They were happy to sell out when the chance came and we all got laid off when the new owners moved the franchise and closed the doors.

I ride too much and so far have not been impressed. It works for the ritchey because I can’t get that bike wet, but the cervelo I frequently ride in the rain. The first time I waxed the cervelo it got wet the next day and it rendered the wax useless. I decided to not wax that chain again.

Today it took me a total of 3 hours to wax the ritchey chain. 3 hours from the time I took it off and put it back on.


If I had the funds to buy 3 spare chains for each bike, I would probably be more onboard, but having no spares at the moment, not worth it too me.
