Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

59 miles today, standard Sunday route. 3200 feet of climbing. Mostly took it pretty easy, but there was no real headwind for once, so on one 3 mile, mostly straight, slightly descending section, I got aero and went a little nuts. I didn't set a PR, because my top 3 times on there were all done with tailwinds, so they were a bit faster.

It was still in the 40s riding along the creek through Hillsborough, but it warmed up for the rest of the ride. Except this one spot in Woodside, crossing a creek. I swear, it's always 10 degrees cooler there than anywhere else! Beautiful sunny day, not a cloud in the sky.

With all the talk about fake shimano chains,

Would you guys and gals order shimano group set pieces from Amazon? Parents asked me what I wanted for Christmas, easier to send them an amazon list with all the pieces of the groupset then telling them which website to go to for each piece. Example, jenson has rear derailers but does not have shifters. Or do you think there is a high probability one or more could be fake?

beautiful. we had pretty gusty winds north of you, the kind where it always feels like a headwind but probably isn't. or at least, is only a headwind 80% of the time.

for me the temperature was just about perfect except for the first half hour or so (went out at 8am), shorts, tall socks, long sleeve "jersey," wind resistant gloves. sweated just a bit in the sunnier climbs, peaked around 62 degrees, blue skies.

I personally wouldn’t, but if you have the time to verify authenticity and deal with returns or disputes, you might find some good deals.

Even if Amazon is the seller, they’re just taking shipments in and stocking them. There’s no one verifying the authenticity of anything that’s coming in or is going out the door. But that’s just me.

I just watched the video. Not real convincing. Max power went up all else went down. I suppose it is better than doing nothing. It seems like he wasn't riding during the 30 days. He also was still sore on day 30. What happens after 30 days? No squats and go back to regular routine?

I'm not sure I could even do 50/day without the 22.0462 pound weight. Hmmm...

Cripes, I wore more than that and I rolled out at 10 of 10! I did doff the gillet vest once I got to Woodside, though.

Tough call. Since I got burned, I would try very hard to buy from a reputable source.

I limited all my Ebay purchases of R8000 bits for the Litespeed to North America. AND they had to be authorized Shimano dealers and have 100% feedback. The cheap listings from China scared me off.

agreed, and frankly i no longer consider amazon a reputable source of anything other than kindle books, AWS, and frustration.

Unfortunately the only straight-from-Shimano bike stuff on Amazon is pedals and shoes. There may be some bike shops on there that have legit stuff, I haven't looked around that much though.

Shimano store on AMZN

I’m not doing this because of that guy, one of the older guys I ride with, who used to be big in racing recommended it to me. Said it would help my top end, wanted me to so z2 rides for 30 days with the squats once the squats were over start introducing intervals again.

The gcn video wasn’t really clear whether or not he was riding. Also seemed like it was trying to advertise for woop.

That’s lame about amazon. Walmart actually has a pretty big selection of shimano groupset components. I’m assuming they are legit?

Walmart.com adopted the Amazon model several years ago. Some are legit, some are not. Looks like the 3 main sellers of Shimano gear there are 365 Cycle, Wheel and Sprocket and Moosejaw (a Walmart company). I don't know any of them, but maybe research could be done.

I'd probably avoid this one: Sold and shipped by Joybuy | Jingdong E-Commerce (Trade) Hong Kong Corporation

Looks like they only sell weird sub-Tourney level stuff though

Concur. And the maze underneath would all be thorny, given my luck. Not little thorns, like barberry. No, bigass thorns like bougainvillea.
