Addiction 2021.4

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes. They have a 20% off one full-priced item member appreciation sale and later I think, another 20% off spring sale. I have their MasteerCard so I get 5% back even on sale items, which don't qualify for a dividend.

Cool, I think I'll just wait until then, in that case. And yeah, I have the REI MC, too - I rarely use it, but I'll have to remember to use it for that.

That's disappointing. I love the pink of my jacket - super bright.

Yesterday, my wife took it upon herself to do something that I'd been intending to do for the last week or so: clean the accumulated dust and crud from the blades and grille of the box fan that I use when on the trainer. Holy buckets - it's like a wind tunnel in here now! The low setting seems like it's pushing more CFM than the high setting did!

It’s my only credit card. I usually get at least $200 in dividends every year.

On yesterday's ride I think I unintentionally ended up in somebody's d**k measuring competition. A couple guys on newer, nicer bikes than I was on, looking significantly more fit and less fat than I. I wasn't trying to beat them or anything, it's just they were going slower than I wanted to, twice (because a short detour I took put me behind them again), and then, because the wind was behind me and I was on a long down hill segment, I just got in the drops and rode tempo for about 3 miles, at the end of which, they passed me, and since I was stopping for water anyway, that's the last I saw of them. They didn't give me "The Look" or anything, so maybe it was just a coincidence, but it SEEMED like they were trying to prove they were faster than a 64 year old fat guy on a 40 year old bike....

Turns out I got a PR on the 'tempo' segment, which is not too shabby, considering I was on a 40 year old bike and Strava says I've ridden that segment 255 times.

There is a guy in the general pop who is trying to sell a Tarmac SL7 Speed of Light. That is such a cool bike.

Fun fact: My dad grew up In Seattle, and was an avid skier and mountaineer as a young adult around the time REI was founded. His membership number was 4 digits.

I had a hard time spending dividends a couple of years ago and I stopped using that card. I might start using it more to feed the Rapha need, now that they're carrying a decent selection.

How much shopping do you do at REI to have a credit card there? I only have two credit cards total.

Master Card - like Visa - can be used anywhere.
