Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Was 1989 the last year of premium steel road bikes from Schwinn? The 1990 Catalog shows Paramounts, but they all seem to be aluminum.
At some point they started selling bikes called "Paramount Design Group", or PDG. They still said Paramount on the frame but they were produced in Asia. Maybe that's what Seeds was referring to. After they sold the name Schwinn the small shop in Wisconsin where the Paramounts were made became Waterford and they eventually released the Gunnar branded frames as a lower priced option.
Gives me an excuse to post this pic. It was cold up there and the little streams of water crossing the road while I was climbing were frozen when I went back down.

Take care of her despite the hospital's attempt to thwart your efforts. The Healthcare system has a few good people like @datlas and a bunch of French showers.

We're out for dinner and a guy, at the table next to us, is wearing a t-shirt with a bike print and a caption that reads "53 miles per burrito."

He's either eating monster burritos or he's doing leisurely rides.

36/2 +7 = 25, so you were good even then. Assuming you're older than that now - you are, aren't you? - then it's all good.

If you pre-burrito, you can go 57 miles with no burritos.

Impressive.

It has started to rain lightly on my campfire. Supposed to rain all night. I have a lean to, so I’ll sleep dry.

One of our Newport-Bermuda crew destroyed his knee in an ethanol-related fall while climbing aboard the boat from a dinghy. So, I had to recruit an old buddy of mine, who has turned “pro” and therefore gets his expenses reimbursed by the owner and will not be allowed to steer the boat except in an emergency, according to the rules of our race division. If cycling were like sailing, the Grand Tour peloton would be full of bike mechanics, coaches, and sales reps.

The funny ("funny") thing is, it's not that any person was actually a French shower (or my choice, a shower tote, a bag which one would take into the shower, possibly in France). It was the entire system set up for the people running it, and for each person individually more than even a consistent method.

I was told I'd drop her off and then pick her up when she was ready. The automated call said 10am; when she called she was told 9:30 (good thing she called!). Then when I left I was told it would be sometime between 2 and 4, so I was set to have lunch at 1. I was good and hungry at 1220 when they called and asked me to pick her up a snack at Sprouts and bring it, so I did, figuring I could get lunch on the way back. Then when I dropped them off I was asked to go down to the pharmacy to pick up her meds.

Now, the pharmacy meant standing in a 15-minute line, twice. Then the nurse wanted to go over all the meds and instructions, but I did protest and got to go get lunch, but it was egg bites at Starbucks instead of a delicious omelette as I had planned. Good thing I have an understanding boss! And this sort of thing just happened all day; each person told me their part with no greater-scope awareness and no concern for making sure the communication was accurate.

Obviously, I would do whatever needed, but I was plainly not needed for quite much of the day. They wanted me sort of on tap for whenever, for however long, with no warning. Yet each individual person was good.

Bah.

Humbug.
