Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

65 MPH through the desert - YouTube
I've done that but I remember the climb more than the descent. The climb up from town just seems to go on forever. Before you get to the canyon if you turn around and look back it's mind blowing how far you've climbed. Once in the canyon the mental part of the climb becomes easier.

The must have paved it since I was there because the top was rough.

There are 2 descents in the area which were more memorable to me. Coming down from Lake Sabrina we were going so fast it was ridiculous. Most of the riders were braking.

Got good news today, I’m getting based back in New York August 1st.

I can’t do 4 days on 2 days off. I have literally spent my whole day off running around. Tomorrow I have to go back to Charlotte.
Unfortunately I have to work all day

Well sure.

Mombug is doing pretty well, thanks - still better than I had been, but has confirmed she is not up to coming along for the house-shopping tomorrow. Has progressed to being able to do things like get her own first coffee in the morning, and needs less help/ help less often getting settled on her chair. Even when I do lift her left for her it moves more easily. That said, yeah, she's still definitely well south of "recovered". Of course.

And of course, my being happily-settled-in relationship-wise for all these years removed a great deal of what this thread used to be about.

Newport-Bermuda tracker is up with one week to the start!

Gulf Stream images are here among other places

Restive in the Finisterre division is your man. Here's the entry list, unfortunately without ratings. We should be one of the faster boats in the division and handicapped accordingly, so some boats behind us could finish ahead on corrected time.

For the Addicts that wear Lakes and are lace-curious - they've got both Black and White CX-1s (3-hole, carbon sole) on closeout for $99 (MSRP was $199) and have them available in both Regular and Wide (their Regular are moderately wide, as-is). I just ordered a pair of White because I'm a fancy boy and I'll be even fancier with laces.

FYI, these are final sale, so you need to be sure about your Lake sizing - I don't think they're taking returns.

Nice. I am partial to Sidis because they run narrow. I have a thread in the 41 about the Genius 7 vs 10, and someone suggested the Shot which goes for $579.
