Fresh find...
Stumbled across this mid seventies Holdsworth Equipe a few days ago. Too big for me but some neat upgrades make for a pretty decent find. I really like these old English bicycles and wish that I could find the right one in the right size for me.

Mine came with said lettering in 1973 and it didn't stay on too well either. I remember that each letter was a separate decal and all were raised a bit to make them susceptible to chipping off during the various adventures that befell the bike, like rubbing your foot against the frame whilst mounting. When I did the latest repaint (#4) earlier this year I got vinyl decals that were one-piece for the whole HOLDSWORTH blocks and then clear coated them under. I've ridden it quite a bit and don't think that I'll see the same degree of failure.

That block lettering seems to have trouble staying on the panels. Here's another on Ebay in a similar state.

Don't know about the tubing, but the Reynolds sticker on the seat tube my 73 didn't last long. It wasn't cleared over or protected in any way. Hopefully the experts will chime in. FWIW, the metal badge on the head tube Ebays for about $35.

I just got a 1956 zephyr frameset and need some help equipping it. Anyone got some shellwin hubs or harden hubs? Chater lea cranks would be nice. Or some bh airlites. I dont know exactly how to go about finishing it so ill get some pictures and take suggestions.

those Equipes have the Team Colours, but they are a budget model: the tubing is conspicuously not specified in '70s Holdsworthy Catalogs, but the fork is: and it alone has 531 blades. Before '76 these did not have a 531 decal on the forkblades and could be had in Team livery as an option, by '76 they only came in the Orange with Kingfisher Blue panels and with Campagnolo Valentino gears. So...this eBay unit is very much overpriced.

Well, I can't wait any longer so here goes.
My 1956 holdsworth zephyr.
I've been communicating with a wheelmaker who says he will have my 40hole rim made by the first week of march, upon building the wheels I will just need the pedals and the brakes.

On the subject of 40H rims, it's remarkably easy to lace a 40H hub to a 32H rim; you need two spoke sizes, but otherwise it's pretty straightforward. A lot easier than finding a 40H rim, anyway.

The spoke spacing depends on the flange size. You have 8 holes you're not going to use, so four on each flange; so you use four holes, skip one, use four, and so on. The end result is that your spoke heads are unevenly spaced; 16 spokes end up a little shorter than they would be if evenly spaced (maybe 1 or 2 mm); 16 end up a bit longer (maybe 3 or 4 mm).
The math is beyond my abilities, but lacing the wheel up is not that tricky.

holdsworth 1982 "nuovo record" in production for a year, know of 3 others - all i the usa and forum members here. maybe one of the rarer frames?

Back in '81 & still in HS bought a Holdsworth Elan. Took that bike all over the place with me during my travels in the USAF. In 2004 got an overseas assignment & failed to take it with me, opting to take my MTB instead. Long story short, my wife gave the bike away. I wasn't sure I wanted to come home after that!

Good show! What a beauty. I sometimes bring my Holdsworth into my office while working just so I can look at it and touch it at will. My wife thinks I'm nuts but at last count she had 47 pairs of shoes!
