I had a crazy weekend.
Saturday morning, I'm nearing the end of my ride when I felt a weird scratching on my chest near my HR monitor. I start feeling around. Nothing feels abnormal. Then I feel the same thing around my back. A moment later, I felt the bee sting.
Apparently it flew into my partially open jersey - it was pretty hot - crawled around until it stung me.
Later in the day, I had to deal with two snakes.
The first I found in the backyard while planting some bushes. I tried to shoo it away, but it didn't want to leave. I didn't know what kind it was or whether it posed a threat to my dog, so I ended up killing it. I found out later that it was pretty benign. Now I know for next time.
The second snake I found in my wife's car.
We bought a load of pine straw at Lowes. The first trip we fit nine bails in the back of her Prius and then three more strapped to her bike rack. She went back for a few more while I worked in the yard. She gets home and tells me there were ants in some of the pine straw. So we get the bails out, and I see some ants on the sheet we put down to keep her car clean. I pull the sheet out and find a snake sitting under it. It must have been in the pine straw.
That one freaked me out.
It quickly slithered under her trunk mat. I grabbed the rake, pulled up the mat and raked the snake out. And I killed it in the driveway. Again, I don't know what kind it was. Based on later research - I forget the type - I don't think it was venomous, but it was described as being very aggressive and biting a lot while spraying a musk.
My wife, amazingly, was much more calm about the whole thing than I was.
Then on Sunday morning, my wife opened the garage door. A bird flew in and freaked out. I crapped all over my car and into hers through the open window and then onto her bicycle before flying out.

Dude that is one crazy wildlife weekend.
I'm pretty sure I would have screamed and ran like a girl if I found a snake in the car.

I have a friend on FB who owns a bit of land near town, where he lives. He has a chicken coop, and has some regular snakes that he recognizes who come in to steel eggs. He relocates them across the ranch, and they usually don't make it back for a week or two. Snakes are good to have around though, so he doesn't kill them unless he sees a rattler.

Speaking of scary stuff, who was it that posted about "mystery hoof prints" on a toilet lid a while back?? What ever happened with that?

I messaged my doctor to find out if I should come in about a lingering cough I've had, including the fact that it got a lot worse after a race a couple Sundays ago. She comes back with, "you may have cough variant exercise-induced asthma." Huh. I'm a little skeptical of that. Based on some perusing of the symptoms, it is not impossible, I guess, it doesn't necessarily present as shortness of breath (which is what I assumed) but as decreased stamina or difficulty recovering from efforts. So maybe? But I don't know. It seems like the sort of thing that would have caused more noticeable problems over the last few years. I guess I'll look into it.

This. I get pretty legit EIA when it's colder out and I do hard VO2 work either in training or racing. But I can still breathe fine, it just sounds like im dying when exhaling and it causes me to cough a lot (my girlfriend used to make fun of me after TTs). I used to have full blown asthma growing up, but it faded away as I got older.

I think the bronchial constriction of asthma causes air to become "trapped" in lungs, so while it may appear that one is short of breath during an asthma attack, and it appears, even feels, that they cant inhale, they are actually short of breath because their lungs are already full of air they cant exhale. thus, the coughing.

Yeah, huh. Thanks for the info everyone. My assumption has been that after racing for six years that I should have noticed something being wrong. But based on creatre's symptoms in particular, it seems possible that I could have a mild case. But seeing as I've had a dry cough for the last couple months, my going theory on my hacking and coughing after my crit a couple weekends ago was that I was racing with a lingering chest infection or something. Well, one way or another, I'll find out.
